You and the Role

As a Director of Marketing, you enjoy the art and craft of understanding, connecting with and selling to customers. To thrive here, you must have some familiarity with and passion for consumer products that solve real problems through sophisticated design and engineering.

Position Requirements:

  • 7+ years of increasing responsibility for setting marketing direction and strategy that delivers on company goals
  • Experience managing both brand and performance marketing in a fast growing consumer startup
  • Deep marketing funnel knowledge including the ability to plan comprehensive campaigns and measure performance holistically
  • Demonstrated understanding of what's needed to create awareness and drive conversion in considered-purchase, high price point products
  • Skilled and versatile individual contributor: You can write copy, do some design work, set up digital campaigns including attribution tracking, and more. You still love to roll up your sleeves to create campaigns, deploy and measure them.
  • Results-oriented: Strong foundation in Google Analytics and using conversion rates, order values, CAC, and other inputs to gauge the effectiveness of different channels and initiatives
  • Effective prioritization skills: Able to identify and drive the most-impactful actions to take, when there's a lot to do as an early-stage company
  • Extremely organized: A master at details, with the ability to zoom out, see the bigger picture, and quickly adapt to changes
  • Experimentation oriented: Measure each experiment, document findings, share broadly within the company and make recommendations for future use
  • Some management and hiring experience with aspirations to grow through building a team of direct reports
  • Position reports to the CEO so you must be a highly self-directed, action-oriented problem solver
  • Experience working with multiple functions within a consumer brand

Bonus points for:

  • Mailchimp, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite skills
  • Art direction, asset management, and photography knowledge helpful
  • Experience working at a small startup before (<20 people)—you enjoy this stage and building something from the ground up!

What the job involves:

  • Lead the refinement of the company’s and product lines’ value propositions and the corresponding copy and visuals that differentiate them
  • Build understanding of current customers and apply that to growth strategy, target audiences and message delivery across multiple consumer segments
  • Create full funnel strategies and campaigns across all channels including but not limited to paid search, digital advertising, email marketing, PR, partnerships, our website + checkout, content marketing, affiliate/influencer marketing, and customer referrals
  • Develop automated drip campaigns and other prospect nurturing
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate and optimize the effectiveness of all marketing activities
  • Create marketing OKR reporting to support your day-to-day decision making as well as executive level insights to share across the company and with investors
  • Manage marketing budget and ad spend to aligned targets
  • Own creative direction and deliver brand consistency across all touchpoints
  • Supervise and support several part-time direct reports

We are based in Sonoma County, CA working in a hybrid style of work. The ideal candidate would be based in the SF Bay Area, but we are open to fully-remote for the right candidate.
