Summary:
The Chicago Blackhawks’ Vice President of Marketing, will oversee, develop and deploy various marketing initiatives and branding efforts to achieve long- and short-term organizational goals. The VP will be a key partner to the leadership team while working closely with the EVP to set the overall marketing strategy, elevate the Blackhawks brand, captivate new and diverse audiences, deliver legendary fan experiences and drive revenue. The VP will be digitally and culturally savvy, and an inspiring leader who brings sharp and bold thinking to the team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for collaborative development and execution of marketing and brand strategy across the Chicago Blackhawks enterprise (Blackhawks, Fifth Third Arena and AHL’s Rockford IceHogs) to further marketing goals and drive organizational business priorities
- Lead agency relationship, and internal teams, in the development of briefs, prioritizing workflow, driving media expertise and innovation, and measuring ROI to drive success
- Responsible for the strategic planning of cross-organizational initiatives and marketing campaigns that drive revenue across ticketing, retail, events, corporate partnerships and programming
- Create breakthrough ideas connecting with existing and new audiences while elevating relevance in the cultural conversation by leveraging digital innovation, emerging technology and media
- Spearhead yearly content audit to analyze trends, tracking and reporting across content type and channel to assess metrics and refinements to ensure KPIs are met, and resources optimized
- Lead targeting and personalization strategies for digital/social initiatives to deliver the right message to the right consumer at the right time
- Ensure application of research and data for fan segmentation, user journeys and customer lifetime value strategies in partnership with Business Strategy & Analytics (BSA)
- Manage financials for marketing function including the building, optimization and management of department budget and spend
- Ensure implementation of a communications strategy that enhances the Blackhawks’ brand, drives awareness via earned media and increases visibility for key stakeholders
- Work closely with Chicago Blackhawks Foundation/Outreach, Revenue, and BSA teams, enterprise partners and the United Center to create consensus and positive outcomes
- Collaborate with Creative on branding and visual communication, shared responsibility for delivering a cohesive look and feel and content across all communication channels
- Lead a large and dynamic team across Marketing, PR, Hockey Relations, Player/Influencer Marketing, Digital and Social
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in marketing or related discipline; MBA preferred
- 10+ years experience, preferably in CPG, retail, sports, entertainment, media and/or related agency
- 5+ years of leadership experience carrying out marketing efforts including planning, prioritizing and implementing strategy
- Proven ability to create high-impact, results-oriented marketing campaigns with a focus on building brand awareness, driving business success and meet company objectives
- Experience managing outside agency relationships
- Creative and entrepreneurial mindset, with superior attention to detail, strong project management skills, ability to oversee budgets and time sensitive deliverables
- Ability to partner with BSA to make data driven decisions improving ROI across marketing efforts
- Expertise in digital with a strong understanding of video, social, OTT and emerging formats
- Informed perspective on the overall media landscape, trends, consumption habits and challenges
- Stays abreast of marketing best practices and cultural trends, experiments, able to manage change, effectively problem solves and takes calculated risks
- Candidate must possess strong leadership, communication skills and have an executive presence as a mature thought partner for senior management and external counterparts
