Job Description

The Shopify Spaces Sr. Events Manager is responsible for the success of local experiences and events, targeting creators and merchants Entrepreneurs.

They are responsible for the overall Spaces event strategy; Large-scale events, merchant event programming and talent and partnership opportunities, from ideation, conception and execution that target our goals.

The Sr. Events Manager is also responsible for overseeing a team of Event Managers and Coordinators that are responsible for event execution that engage our local community.

They will work closely with the Spaces lead as well as the Spaces leadership team, and the relevant Product and Service line stakeholders (Retail Program Manager, Marketing, Brand, Compass, Start) to build an event strategy. They will ensure that the event managers are executing on these strategies and are meeting key performance indicators.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategize, conceptualize and execute an aggressive events program which reinforces our team goals and priorities
  • Develop and leverage brand partnerships through a broad scale of events and activations that elevate and align with brand goals
  • Oversee event budgets and production process, partnering with the Spaces Lead to ensure effective spending and timelines
  • Suggest appropriate vendors, consultants, and production partners, as needed
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams under the Brand Audience & Expansion division, to maximize event opportunities such as influencer activities, social and press opportunities, etc.
  • Work with Shopify legal team to review and revise contracts
  • Manage after event reporting and post-mortems
  • Collaborate with your lead and peers to establish and evolve explicit and measurable performance standards and hold yourself and your people accountable to meeting those standards consistently
  • Work with Spaces operations to establish reporting that showcases the success of your function
  • Identify the highest potential within your people and empower them to attain it through coaching and development that is focused on quality behaviours and feedback.
  • Effectively communicate the vision, purpose, and objectives of Shopify Spaces to reporting Event Managers and Coordinators
  • Hire, train, and lead effective team members to deliver an exceptional experience for the Space
  • Ensure event assets and landing pages are submitted to weekly marketing newsletters in a timely manner
  • Work with your Spaces team to ensure all programming and operational tasks are complete.
  • Collaborate with your lead and peers to establish and evolve explicit and measurable performance standards and hold yourself and your people accountable to meeting those standards consistently
  • Understand, implement, and coach your team on the use of tooling, Spaces team policies and processes, and expectations

Qualifications

  • The experience to flawlessly deliver on client commitments
  • A history of promoting a positive team climate that inspires others to excel and deliver
  • Valuable leadership of program and client teams
  • Demonstrated experience in marketing / client services with a strong proficiency in delivering solutions
  • Strong program management, organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated event management competencies: client focus, accountability for results, team effectiveness, developing others, attention to detail, flexibility and professional confidence
  • Strong familiarity and comfort with technology in general, a desire to remain informed of current trends and improvements, and the ability to communicate highly technical concepts to a non-technical audience

Expectations:

  • Execute world-class local IRL events
  • Build positive and sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that all events are aligned with the Brand’s long- term business strategies and goals
