WHOOP is looking for a VP of New Media to oversee our global social and ambassador efforts. This role will be responsible for driving brand profile and organic membership growth through the expansion of earned, operated, and owned media channels.
The VP will report to the SVP of Marketing.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of creative and impactful communications and social media strategies that position WHOOP as a formidable leader in health, fitness, and tech
- Massively scale TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and other social media platforms, growing followings and increasing engagement. The key initial measurements of success will be follower counts, impressions, and engagement. Over time these accounts will become core sales channels
- Support and direct the content development process for all channels, working alongside the VP of Brand
- Collaborate with executive, marketing, and cross-functional leadership to develop an inspiring messaging platform based in the WHOOP mission, product, and science
- Expertly, innovatively, and prolifically distribute messaging and brand content within the domains of social and earned media channels
- Align relevant channels to broader communication initiatives, campaigns, and commercial moments
- Manage, develop, and oversee the Social Media team to develop global social content calendars and influencer strategies, report on performance, pursue new channels and tactics where needed, and build strong, engaged communities
- Lead the strategy for entering new media territories, including developing businesses cases
- Create channel-specific ambassador and athlete campaigns that support integrated marketing goals and amplify maximum impact moments
- Manage and lead PR using both internal and external resources to provide coverage for internal, consumer, corporate, and investor communications
- Champion innovative publicity approaches that stir conversation, garner hits and engagement, and drive member acquisitions
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key contacts and journalists across print, digital, tech, and fitness media
- Develop a productive, supportive, and collaborative team culture, and mentor our talent to achieve world-class creative output
- Oversee PR and social budgets
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience leading PR and social strategy in either agency or in-market settings
- Experience building and scaling media teams
- Deep familiarity with cultural trends and tensions and authentic opportunities to tie those to our work
- Strong managerial skills and ability to be flexible as the team grows
- Ability to react quickly and positively to real-time trends and troubles
- Strong executive presence and seasoned veteran managing high-profile executives, athletes, and personalities
- Proactive and results-oriented mindset
- Highly collaborative but knows when to make critical decisions quickly
