Overview

Empowr is a nonprofit (501c3) creating the school-to-career pipeline for students of color. We teach software development for high school students in a culturally relevant way. Upon graduation from our program (and high school), we ensure every student has their six-figure career waiting on them.

We are seeking a curriculum creator and instructor who will work to create new programming courses for Empowr, and teach the concepts to our students. You will help make the course content, video scripts, notes, and more. In addition, you will teach this material to Empowr students throughout the school year. We look for someone who can make learning fun.

For the first 6-8 months, you will focus solely on learning programming concepts and creating curricula around them. After, you will spend half your time teaching and half your time making more curricula.

This role requires a 2-year commitment (similar to Teach for America).

Responsibilities

You would have the following obligations:

  • Develop fun, engaging course content
  • Come up with mini-projects for students to create to demonstrate knowledge
  • Detail multiple capstone projects
  • Interacts positively with parents, students, and other staff
  • Fosters a collaborative environment in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the school
  • Teaches students software development through in-person or virtual platforms

Requirements

  • Clear communication skills
  • An ability to lead a team of volunteers who will assist you
  • Can break down complex subjects into simple ideals
  • A sense of humor (we keep our content light)
  • The ability to work asynchronously
  • A go-getter who can manage their own time

Benefits

  • Pay: $60,000-$80,000 per year
  • Health Insurance
  • 95-100% of the time is remote (Truly remote. You can be anywhere in the world). You may be required spend approximately 3 hours a week in-person during the school year. For this reason, you must be based in the Atlanta, GA, area.
