Director, Program Marketing
Summary: As the Director for Program Marketing, you will lead a team that creates and delivers strategic marketing services for government and private sector clients in the clean energy and transportation space across the U.S. CSE’s marketing team seeks to reach property owners, contractors and public and private entities (B2B) and car shoppers and homeowners (B2C), especially in disadvantaged and low-income communities, to help them take advantage of incentive programs for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, energy storage and rooftop solar. Our tactics include paid digital advertising, email marketing, website design, webinars, social media, print and video collateral, and media outreach. The ideal candidate brings deep marketing experience, ideally in a marketing agency or consulting firm, can manage people and projects in a changing environment, and can collaborate across a complex organization to get things done. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Be a strategic marketer. Engage clients, partners, program staff, and matrix teams to identify goals and objectives; suggest innovative marketing strategies and tactics, especially to reach our multicultural audiences; guide the development and execution of marketing plans on time and on budget; and ensure tracking and communication of results.
- Be a leader. Anticipate challenges, communicate expectations and requirements, adapt to change, work collaboratively and decisively toward goals, and step in and get hands-on.
- Be a manager of projects: Determine marketing project budgets; allocate, monitor and adjust staff billable hours; rebalance team workloads to ensure proper billable hour utilization and avoid gaps or lulls.
- Be a manager and mentor of people. Guide and support marketing managers and associates; set and monitor key objectives; encourage professional development; help overcome communications, technology, process or other obstacles to their progress; hire and train new staff; and conduct annual performance appraisals.
- Help us bring in new work. Develop marketing proposals and budget and hour estimates for RFPs in collaboration with the Business Development team and marketing managers.
- Make us better. Recommend innovative marketing tactics and technologies and help staff learn to use them. Seek ways to improve processes and procedures and ensure best practices are followed.

- Deep marketing expertise, preferably in an agency or consulting firm environment, including experience developing marketing strategic plans based on data and research, implementing digital and traditional tactics, and measuring and reporting results.
- Experience engaging with clients, including aligning goals and expectations with resources; setting scope, budget and team assignments; responding to changing needs and priorities, introducing and generating consensus on new ideas, and advocating for marketing resources.
- Experience reaching multicultural audiences in disadvantaged or low-income communities.
- Exceptional project management skills. Ability to prioritize, organize and plan; ensure timetables for deliverables are met, and pay attention to details and quality.
- Exceptional communication skills. Proven ability to engage, collaborate and communicate clearly, tactfully and persuasively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve goals.
- Experience responding to RFPs with proposed marketing tactics and time and cost breakdowns for budgets.
· Experience managing and mentoring marketing personnel, providing guidance and feedback, evaluating performance, and fostering professional development and career advancement.
- Experience increasing team efficiency through technology and improvements and adherence to processes and procedures.
- Experience and competency with technologies used in marketing such as metrics and analytics (Data Studio, Google Analytics), project management systems (Teamwork), email marketing (Marketo, Litmus), and digital and social media advertising platforms (Facebook Ad Manager, Google Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager).
- Knowledge of processes to develop websites and videos.
- High competency in using standard office software packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Preferred
· Familiarity with clean energy and/or clean transportation
· Experience with government clients
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in marketing, advertising, communications or related field.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
· At least 15 years of marketing experience. Experience as a marketing manager and experience overseeing a team.
