Associate Director, Corporate Social/ Digital Media

Gilead Sciences Public Affairs seeks an exceptional digital and social media communications leader. Reporting to the Director, Social/ Digital Media, this person works closely and collaboratively with our business leaders and adjacent public affairs functions to tell our story through social media channels with clarity and consistency and in a compelling way.

This role will be based in our New Jersey office or can be located at our Foster City, CA campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and execute best-in-class content and drive Gilead’s corporate, talent acquisition and affiliate social media programming. Drive pioneering work across existing platforms, scaling growth in reach, engagement and followership.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on corporate, human resources and affiliate teams to lead and execute against an editorial calendar, reflecting events and trends, externally and internally, locally and globally.
  • Partner to provide strategic counsel to key stakeholders and agency partners on best practices for engagement on social media platforms. Identify and optimize channel selection based on audience, strategic objectives, and platform efficiencies.
  • Manage external agency partners to develop compliant social media content and campaigns, overseeing the creation of paid social strategy and ensuring that high-quality content is delivered on time and with appropriate quality control.
  • Support the curation of content across social media, web and video platforms. Edit, stage and publish social media content at scale.
  • Manage Gilead.com content execution and day-to-day management.
  • Contribute to a comprehensive, cross-platform content calendar and digital asset hub.
  • Consult on influencer engagement strategies and tactics, supporting execution of third-party campaigning. Identify and develop relationships with influencers and subject-matter experts to provide valuable resources for social media followers.
  • In coordination with leadership comms team, provide strategic social media counsel to senior executives and work with them to amplify corporate messages on their channels.
  • Evolve and implement organizational social media governance and guidance.
  • Work with analytics and reporting lead to optimize content, increasing engagement and building community followings.
  • Collaborate with the employee engagement team to ensure that we are telling positive stories, internally and externally, about Gilead’s people and culture.

Knowledge, Experience And Skills

  • Proven ability to lead creative production and asset management across agency and in-house teams, trafficking work across legal, corporate, and commercial stakeholders
  • BA/BS degree in communications, liberal arts, or business field and at least 10 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated passion for content marketing and exceptionally strong writing skills
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing a social/digital media strategy from ideation to execution
  • Excellent writing, editing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Previous experience leading programmatic work
  • Solid understanding of paid/organic social media
  • Knowledge of analytics frameworks that help teams understand data and how it impacts communications efforts
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and agencies
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple, high-urgency projects simultaneously; agility is essential
  • Strong project and budget management capabilities
  • Understanding of regulations and principles specific to communications for a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company
  • Strong knowledge of Gilead's therapeutic areas of focus: HIV/virology and oncology
