Position Overview
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for contributing to the strategic development of integrated marketing and communications plans for MCI USA* association clients’ and for positively guiding and influencing an existing team of marketing managers and coordinators while working in close collaboration with other leaders within MCI USA’s Creative Services department as well as other leaders including client boards of directors, volunteer leaders, and other MCI talents.
The Director of Marketing and Communications will create and execute innovative strategic marketing plans to increase membership, attendance, engagement, and revenue. This leader possesses refined communication and leadership skills, with proven success in innovative marketing campaigns across the continuum of today’s marketing channels with a strong emphasis on digital and social media. The ideal candidate is an accomplished, data-informed Manager or emerging Director of Marketing with a bias for hands-on, innovation-focused leadership in the development and execution of marketing campaigns and programs.
Responsibilities
- Manage, lead, and develop the marketing team
- Create, test, and fully implement measurable and impactful marketing and communications strategies that grow the organizations we support
- Develop channel, segment, and market strategies to enable targeted marketing including the development, monitoring, and analysis of key metrics
- Establish reports and or dashboards to include comprehensive data related to campaign performance including email, social media, digital ads (ie Google), and website
- Continue to strengthen our clients’ brands, personality, and voice to build relevance and equity among target audiences, and maintain and improve the reputation of the organizations and their stakeholders
- Mobilize the execution of the team to deliver high ROI results with speed and efficiency
- Establish best-in-class social, digital, and web presence for multiple clients that drive awareness, engagement, affinity, and purchase
- Empower and motivate stakeholders and achieve short and long-term marketing goals while maintaining stability of email and social media reputation
- Develop and execute high-ROI, integrated marketing programs
- Work cross-functionally with client and volunteer leaders, membership, education, events, operations, and sales/sponsorship stakeholders to make sure all marketing promotions can be and are delivered with a high level of quality and that they are geared toward goals and achieving results
Qualifications
- Experience driving results with a small team of marketing specialists with varying skillsets
- Deep, demonstrable understanding of marketing strategy development
- Proven leadership experience carrying out marketing efforts, including planning, prioritizing, and implementing strategy
- Expertise in copywriting components of marketing promotions and their impact on success
- Strong knowledge of paid advertising (social media, digital, etc.)
- Social media strategy expertise and influencer marketing
- Ability to work within a limited budget and pivot quickly
- Deep skills in digital marketing campaign development, execution and leveraging data and analytics (CPC, CTR, open rate, CPL, CPA, EPC, etc.) to improve results and increase ROI
- A proven track record of aligning stakeholders around the client’s brand and marketing strategy, while building a symbiotic partnership with sales and distribution partners
- Experience working cross-functionally to ensure marketing programs are in line with organization objectives
- An entrepreneurial, agile, creative mindset
- Experience in building brand awareness and recognition
- A reputable marketing leader and an effective public speaker
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Customer-centric and can identify and meet customer needs
- Metrics-driven with the ability to draw insight from complex marketing data
Educational & Technical Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing or related discipline
- 7+ years of marketing experience, preferably with associations
- 2+ years of marketing leadership experience
- CRM/AMS, marketing automation platform, digital advertising, and social media management experience
Supervisory Responsibility
The Director of Marketing will directly supervise anywhere from 2-8 marketing coordinators and managers.
Fiscal Duties
- The Director of Marketing will work directly with client leaders to propose marketing budgets and activities, as well as fiscal duties related to soliciting and receiving bids for out-of-scope client work, processing invoices, and operating within established budgetary parameters.
