RIVET

Director, Creative & Content

RIVET
Boston, MA, USA ⚠ [Archived] No Longer Accepting Applicants

RIVET is a nonprofit start-up that harnesses the purchasing power of young consumers to fund their generation’s leadership and innovation. We work with brands and influencers to create pop-culture moments, products, and experiences about which Gen Z is passionate, giving young people more options to support brands that share their values. When young people choose to support our brand partners, they trigger donations that fund the work of youth changemakers around the world. Co-led and co-designed by young people, RIVET represents the largest investment in youth-led social change…ever.

Over the next ten years, our conservative business model estimates that we will invest between $250MM and $375MM in youth-led social innovation in the areas that young people (and corporate ESG priorities) care most about: education, sustainability, health & wellness, and poverty & inclusion. Building on our founder’s three-decade research in youth development that grew out of the Harvard School of Education, we will:

  • Measure project impacts on broader communities, as well as the impact of investment on the young people themselves.
  • Track where funding comes and goes with full transparency.
  • Maintain a self-sustaining financial model, with 10% of revenue covering our operations.

A year ago, RIVET was just an idea. Since then, we have achieved many milestones in our organizational start-up phase:

  • Designed a youth-focused brand and engaged potential brand and NGO partners.
  • Launched a sustainable business model. RIVET is structured as a nonprofit with a uniquely self-sustaining financial model driven by co-branded product sales
  • Assembled our staff leadership team. RIVET is being brought to market by a team of leaders at the intersection of youth-led impact, consumer power and brands.
  • Assembled our Advisory Council. We are fortunate to have the brilliant guidance of C-level executives from some of the world's biggest brands.
  • Piloted a proof of concept. Through a partnership with Funko we raised $350,000 with $100,000 supporting RIVET operations and $250,000 supporting 1,000 youth projects in 66 countries
  • Raised $1.7MM in philanthropic start-up capital

RIVET is looking for a Creative & Content Director to translate RIVET’s vision into a consumer-facing youth brand.

RIVET is creating a unique business model: a consumer-facing brand fueled by the passions of Gen Z to do good in the world; a world-class philanthropic fund providing start-up grants to thousands of young social innovators through a network of NGO partners; and a content engine packaging powerful stories of youth-led change for brands and influencers.

As a social impact start-up, we need to tell our story with clarity and passion.

The heart of this role is the creative expression of RIVET’s mission to a primary audience of young people, and secondary audiences including brand partners, donors and NGOs.

The Creative & Content Director will join a dedicated, passionate, low-ego team of founders in launching a first-of-its-kind social movement led by young people. The role will report into the CMO, and will work across the organization with all team members.

The Ideal Candidate Is:

  • A blend of strategic thinker and creative powerhouse; able to both concept big ideas and bringing them to life through creative expression
  • A hands-on creator and community-builder who can develop ideas that connect to and mobilize our key audiences; and execute on them end-to-end
  • Connected to youth culture and understands how to build a youth-centered brand.
  • An expert storyteller who can paint a compelling picture whether the canvas is a presentation deck, a video for social media or a global marketing campaign
  • Hungry to make and build, creatively confident and willing to make bold moves
  • Mission-aligned; passionate about authentic youth leadership and accelerating youth-led social change
  • Guided by a strong moral compass: It takes forever to build a brand and only one cut corner to destroy it

What You Will Do:

  • Creative direction & management: RIVET prioritizes elevating a diversity of youth voices; as such we will work extensively with a network of young creators from around the world to tell their stories.
  • Act as the central hub for all creators developing content under the RIVET brand umbrella
  • Develop and maintain the core creative vision that unifies all RIVET content
  • Write briefs, engage with creators and influencers, synthesize inbound content to present a clear and cohesive story to the public
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity, adherence to RIVET’s values and spirit of creative collaboration across all content relationships
  • In addition to external collaborators, work closely with in-house youth designers to engage them in marketing strategy and creative support

  • Social media management: Our social communities are where we build the RIVET movement alongside our most important audience - young people.
  • Develop social media strategy in collaboration with CMO; oversee the day-to-day management of our online communities; interact with community members and drive on-platform discourse; act as the primary voice of RIVET on socials
  • Social listening; stay deeply tuned into relevant issues and news; flag online brand risks (such as negative press)
  • Leverage leading-edge digital and on-platform tools to tell our story

  • Asset & content creation: Develop powerful communications materials that bring the RIVET brand to life across all media and align with marketing strategy and organizational goals.
  • Develop youth-facing content that moves young people to action, explains the RIVET concept, and demonstrates proof of our impact
  • Bring stories of youth-led impact to life in a variety of formats (including design and video) and across platforms including digital and virtual media
  • Design pitches, presentations, brand assets, social/digital marketing assets, brand guidelines, toolkits and campaign assets
  • Manage agency partners and vendors as needed

  • Marketing operations: In true start-up form, we are building as we go. This role will lay the tracks for a scalable marketing department that can continue to meet the needs of a growing organization.
  • Develop simple and effective processes by which the marketing team serves the creative needs of the broader organization
  • Plan and manage projects including website updates and advertising campaigns
  • Manage ongoing progress reporting and analysis across platforms

Proficiencies:

  • Marketing project management tools: (we use Notion)
  • Social media management tools: Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout
  • Content creation tools: Canva, Adobe Illustrator
  • Video editing tools (not required but a strong plus): Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, iMovie
