Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is the leading local hunger-relief organization in the state with locations in Milwaukee and Appleton. Founded in 1982 by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is a local and independent member of the Feeding America network. Driven by our mission to solve hunger, we are bringing more people together around the table to collaboratively address the root causes of hunger. Together with our network partners, we serve nearly half a million food-insecure people across 35 counties in eastern Wisconsin each year.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Director of Marketing and Communications serves as the leader of the food bank’s communications team. The purpose of this role is to brand and reinforce Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin as the leading and largest anti-hunger organization in Wisconsin, and the leading voice and subject matter expert on this issue.
This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications, public relations and marketing plans to create a strong image in order to support Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s campaigns, initiatives. programs, and services. The Director of Marketing and Communications also serves as the key administrator for the organization’s creative direction, internal and external communication, marketing programs, and publications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Vice President of Development & Communications to develop a multi-channel strategic marketing and communications plan to build positive brand awareness, understanding, and support of the Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin mission.
- Develop strategy to position Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin as the food bank of choice for partners to support and collaborate within our region.
- Develop and oversee campaign and event public relations, as well as earned and paid media strategies to create awareness and support from the public and return on investment for partners.
- Develop strategy to elevate leaders of food bank externally as experts and influencers in the community and anti-hunger space, including speaking engagements, media opportunities, organizations and boards to join, awards to be nominated for, etc.
- Integrate brand strategy and voice externally and internally to ensure consistency in messaging.
- Develop public relations and media engagement strategy to ensure consistent positive coverage of food bank campaigns, issues, programs and other anti-hunger.
- Develop digital strategy including paid placements and social media advertising, SEO, and growth of social media platform followers and implementing trends that keep our message compelling and current.
- Oversee the development, distribution and maintenance of all print collateral including annual report, newsletters, toolkits, educational materials, brochures, event invitations, promotional items and more.
- Provide editorial and design direction, handle quality control and proofreading, oversee production, and create and implement distribution plans, as needed.
- Oversee capturing storytelling content through staff, contributors, and volunteers writing newsletter and blog articles, taking videos and photos, and other ways of capturing the story of our mission.
- Oversee management of website, e-newsletters and social media channels.
- Review and approve all external visual assets with photographers and videographers.
- Ensure all designs, collateral and campaigns reflect the organization's brand, mission, and messaging.
- Develop communication plans for internal departments that align with their goals and the organization’s strategic plan.
- Oversee the development of communications materials in support of various departments in the organization.
- Oversee design and production of promotional giveaways and campaign-related apparel.
- Partner with and manage third party vendors and suppliers necessary to complete the broader marketing and communications strategy.
- Stay up to date on developments and trends in the fields of marketing and communications, non-profit management and governance, Feeding America membership support, and the specific business of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
- Manage communications staff and skills-based communications volunteers.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Commitment to understand and support FAEW’s mission, vision, and effective actions to end food insecurity and its causes.
- Respect for the people FAEW serves and commitment to learn the causes of their food insecurity and need.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred.
- Four years minimum communications or marketing experience preferred
- Must possess strong written and oral communications skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the organization professionally and create positive relationships.
- Strong knowledge of social media, website content management systems, and email communication.
- Public relations and promotional background preferred.
- Graphic design skills preferred.
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be open-minded of differing opinions and views.
- Valid Driver’s license, proof of insurance and transportation to support work activities.
- Ability to work occasional weekends and/or evenings as required for FAEW events.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, and/or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds while moving files or small packages. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. REMOTE WORK:
The ability to work from home is a flexible work arrangement that Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin (FAEW) offers to enable employees to achieve a more successful balance between work responsibilities and family life. FAEW may offer this option to employees when it benefits both the organization and the employee. However, our FAEW facilities serve as a critical hub for collaboration and, while we want to embrace flexibility, the need to be in the office or out in the field and working on projects or networking through natural camaraderie, will be expected. This position does have the capacity to work from home in our hybrid work from home model.
