Digital Community Strategy Manager - Remote

Job Summary
The Digital Community Strategy Manager is a highly collaborative and fast-paced role that will report to the Senior Director of Social Fundraising to create and execute the American Cancer Society’s digital community strategy to raise dollars, raise awareness, and cultivate life-long supporters of our mission. This role will collaborate with partners across the organization to diversify the American Cancer Society’s revenue channels and audience funnels, aligning with the organization’s strategic objectives.
This role will be responsible for the creation, execution and monitoring of an integrated content plan for the American Cancer Society’s diverse digital communities. Community plans will need to be extensible to a variety of different platforms and delivery methods. This role will own key metrics such as lives impacted, organic reach, engagements, and volunteer conversion; along with a budget to achieve those goals. This role will need to have an eye to the horizon and be eager and active in engaging new platforms, tools, and adopting new methods of communication as they appear.
This role will work closely with stakeholders in the Creator and DIY / Crowdfunding spaces to activate those communities and ensure that they are being cultivated in adherence with established best practices. This role will also work closely with Brand and Marketing partners to ensure that any content that is developed adheres to brand standards and properly represents the American Cancer Society.
Major Responsibilities
Community Development
- Architect and establish vibrant, welcoming and valuable digital community spaces for the supports of the American Cancer Society.
- Ensure that those communities are well moderated and that the content being created and shared with those communities is valuable and germane to their interests.
- Own a pipeline strategy of cultivating the members of these communities to deepen their connection to the ACS.
- Lead time-based activations throughout the year to grow the reach and engagement of the ACS in our digital communities.
- Identify and engage key industry partners to amplify the reach and value of our community activations.
- Strategize on new and innovative ways to engage communities and community members while owning KPIs related to existing community work.
- Monitor industry trends and best practices to adjust existing strategies and tactics and develop new opportunities.
- Work with internal ACS Development partners to leverage opportunities to create organization success.
- Be an advocate for community-based efforts with peers and across the organization.
Content Planning + Creation
- Plans and creates content that is relevant and exciting to diverse and unique communities of all sizes and interests.
- Actively seeks out feedback about that content from those communities to continually improve it.
- Easily and quickly builds relationships and trust with internal and external partners.
- Collaborate closely with internal partners that own other social channels to ensure that content being shared aligns with organization-wide efforts.
- Work in a nimble, creative way to respond to the needs of communities, platforms and other partners.
- Able to understand which voices to amplify to create a positive and welcoming community for all supporters.
- Understand and adhere to internal approval and asset creation pipelines to not overburden internal resources.
Brand and Impact
- Ensure that communities and community leaders have access to the content that they need to correctly share the ACS mission and brand.
- Work with communities to create positive organic social impressions for the ACS.
- Collaborate with internal creative and content partners on assets that are valuable our communities and community leaders.
- Monitor that our work engages and reaches a diverse and inclusive supporter base.
Operations
- Create a target KPI / key metric community plan with the SD of Social Fundraising, and own the maintenance and projections for that living document.
- Able to create and share clean and concise reporting about the on-going results of their work.
- Comfortable with reviewing, negotiating and maintain contracted agreements with a variety of partners.
- Share learnings and knowledge with internal partners to benefit organizational growth.
Position Requirements
FORMAL KNOWLEDGE
- Combined 5+ years of experience in managing digital communities through direct engagement, content creation and moderation.
- Ability to conceive of the “new and different” and work to make that a reality while navigating unforeseen challenges.
- Able to work flexible hours as needed to meet the needs of bi-coastal communities.
- Experience working in a collaborate team environment and balancing multiple work processes and deadlines.
- Track record of building relationships in a remote / digital environment.
- Extensive knowledge of community management best practices and tools.
SPECIALIZED TRAINING OR KNOWLEDGE
- Complete proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, VISIO, experience using Adobe Photoshop.
- Able to work in digital community platforms and are familiar with their structure and tools. Key platforms include Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and Discord.
- Familiar with technology, customer engagement, CRM, market intelligence, planning, and digital marketing at scale across Cloud, Mobile and e-Commerce.
- Knowledge and proficiency in working with analytics tools such as Google Analytics, PowerBI, Tableau, Datorama, etc.
- Working knowledge of SEO and UX principles.
- Knowledge of Project Management and Product Management principles and best practices.
Other Skills
- Handles multiple parallel tasks easily within a broad range of software tools.
- Comfortable presenting to members of leadership, public figures and high-value partners.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; public speaking skills; understand difficult verbal and written instructions; understand data processing applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Requires general knowledge of marketing, communication, and account management.
- Authors compelling presentations and emails to engage audiences and cultivate them long-term for the American Cancer Society.
- Accurately shares the ACS story and brand-approved talking points.
- Inspires others to support the American Cancer Society in person with large or small groups, and via live and pre-recorded A/V channels. Comfortable with audiences ranging from 10 to 10,000.
SPECIAL MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to travel for work.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to perform work in a remote environment.
- Must be flexible for after hours and weekend work, as required.
The starting rate is $54,400 to $68,000 per year. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
