Away is a global lifestyle brand with a mission to transform travel through products and content that inspire people to get away more. In support of our mission, we are seeking a Director of Social Media & Community to join our Marketing team.

The Director, Social Media & Community is a dynamic and nimble leader who is highly experienced at building social and influencer strategies that are platform specific and designed to drive brand love. The ideal candidate is a storyteller at heart, who understands the magic of combination of content, conversation and culture and has a successful track record of leading and executing social strategies that are brand centric. You understand that social and influencer are constantly evolving, highly creative channels, but are also the most direct line to our consumer and leverage this understanding to bring a brand into. This role is tasked with developing social-first strategies and programs that fit within our overall marketing strategies, and then overseeing a team of social and community managers that will execute on them at scale. This is a key leadership role in the Brand Marketing team and will report to our VP, Brand marketing and will be based in our New York City office with in-office attendance required twice weekly.

What You’ll Do

  • Define vision and strategy for a comprehensive, integrated social media and influencer marketing practice that amplifies our overall marcom strategy and drives tangible business impact
  • Create focused platform-specific execution strategies for both organic social and influencer that leverage platform strengths and clearly define role of platform within overall marketing ecosystem
  • Implement innovative tactics that leverage consumer insights and brand strategy to build a best-in-class engagement approach that results in meaningful and long-lasting relationships with our community
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the always-evolving social and cultural landscape: including competitive considerations, content trends, features and innovations within existing platforms, and a constant eye on the next big thing—consistently driving the right content and platform mix for Away
  • Develop and maintain a nimble approach to execution across social and influencer that allows us to leverage these channels to quickly respond to and support business needs
  • Structure and oversee a team that aligns with, and can best execute against, defined vision and strategy
  • Champion brand strategy, brand aesthetic and brand standards across all touchpoints and content execution; define and deliver a consistent creative approach that is fully Away but imagined through a social-first lens.
  • Oversee content development, distribution, and community management across all major social media platforms including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and Pinterest
  • Oversee and lead editorial calendar that incorporates overall social media strategy
  • Stay current with social media trends and incorporate, as appropriate, to improve the customer experience, drive sales, and leverage ongoing customer involvement
  • Set goals, track, analyze and report performance, identifying and implementing recommendations for improvement and growth
  • Serve as a thought leader; audit our current process and creative/editorial direction; provide direction for internal partners; lead monthly content brainstorms
  • Conceptualize and lead the creation of compelling content for Instagram feed, stories, reels & TikTok; look for ways to stand out on social media and jump on new trends
  • Work in lock steps with paid media team to ensure a 360-degree approach to marketing
  • Guide community management best practices and establish a process for generating and amplifying testimonials and transformational stories from our community
  • Identify opportunities to partner with like-minded brands and influencers to expand brand awareness and customer engagement
  • Create our influencer marketing strategy, including always-on seeding, launch campaigns, and paid partnerships
  • Strategize and develop influencer marketing campaigns to support product launches and drive brand awareness and reach on Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, and other platforms
  • Build a nascent social and influencer strategy into an awareness and traffic driver for the Brand; develop strategy, processes, and performance evaluation from scratch

Who You Are

  • You have a minimum 8 years of relevant work experience in social media, influencer and/or community marketing
  • You’re a creative thinker with deep familiarity of the social landscape—always keeping a finger on the pulse of the category and translating what you see into innovative strategies
  • You’re a strong leader—someone who people want to learn from, work with, and are inspired by
  • You love data and have a keen ability to analyze and translate results into action
  • You are customer-obsessed—you understand our customer and how to speak to them at every touchpoint
  • You have exceptional communication and story-telling skills that bring passion, energy and inspiration to the forefront
  • You obsess over how our brand shows up and have exceptionally high personal and team standards
  • Team player with a “no task is too small” attitude
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Passionate about transforming travel (but that’s a given!)

Compensation Package

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of our total rewards program that also includes benefits, bonus, equity and various social and professional investment opportunities at Away. Pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including scope and qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Away employees. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at Away to fall healthily within the range based on these factors.

  • Salary Range: $153,000.00 - $162,000.00 annually
  • This role is eligible to participate in Away’s Annual Company Performance Bonus Plan, the terms of which are determined on an annual basis at the discretion of the company
  • Equity Grant: commensurate with level determined at the discretion of the company
