Overview

Title: Activity Specialist, Energizer & Culture Creator

Reports To: Assistant Site Coordinator, Prince Joshua Avitto Community Center

Location: 876 Schenck Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11207

Hours: 6-8 Hours/Week; Exempt (Saturdays)

Job Summary: We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Activity Specialist to join our Saturday Camp program. The Activity Specialist will be responsible for infusing energy, excitement, and a sense of fun into our camp environment. They will play a vital role in creating a vibrant culture, running engaging team-building activities, organizing pep rallies, and facilitating various recreational and artistic activities. The ideal candidate should possess a wide range of talents and be able to think outside the box to create a memorable and enjoyable experience for our participants.

Major Duties:

  • Develop and execute creative and high-energy pep rallies to boost camp spirit and create a sense of unity among participants.
  • Plan and lead engaging team-building activities that promote collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills among campers.
  • Organize and oversee a variety of recreational activities such as sports, games, and outdoor adventures to keep participants active and entertained.
  • All talents are welcomed: The candidate can facilitate arts and crafts sessions, painting workshops, gardening projects, teaching a musical instrument, and other creative activities to nurture campers' artistic skills and self-expression.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive camp culture by promoting respect, teamwork, and camaraderie among participants.
  • Brainstorm and implement innovative ideas for small parties, theme days, and other special events to enhance the camp experience.
  • Create and maintain a safe and inclusive environment for campers, adhering to all safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Collaborate with other camp staff to ensure smooth operations and contribute to the overall success of the program.
  • Evaluate participant feedback and adapt activities accordingly to meet their evolving interests and needs.
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating enthusiasm, creativity, and a willingness to have fun.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant college coursework or degree is a plus.
  • Prior experience working in a camp or youth program, preferably in a leadership or activity specialist role.
  • Proficiency in a variety of activities, such as arts and crafts, painting, recreational games, dance, or step classes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and motivate campers of various ages and backgrounds.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and able to maintain a high level of excitement throughout the camp day.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to generate and implement innovative ideas to make camp engaging and enjoyable.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively plan and coordinate activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt activities to accommodate individual needs and group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to employment).
