Manager, Media & Integrated Marketing

The Media Manager serves as one of the Company’s media experts, with a particular focus on North America. Reporting to the Director, Media & Integrated Marketing, NA & Europe, they are a part of the Media and Integrated Marketing (MIM) team, which is responsible for strategy, planning, buying and implementation of traditional and digital media and activations for our core brands and markets around the world.
Working with the local Marketing Commercialization teams and agencies, the Media Manager will build and optimize breakthrough plans for those markets. The Media Manager will focus primarily on leading media-to-cart communication planning and media activation, including understanding, optimizing and evolving our omnichannel marketing strategies. The Media Manager will have an understanding of the strategy and activation of eCommerce/retailer media, social, media partnerships, and influencers in order to build and steward omnichannel plans.
The Media Manager will interact frequently with senior stakeholders, requiring strategic capabilities, strong leadership and project management skills, influencing and communication skills, and exceptional collaboration. The person will work closely with Marketing and MIM partners—including eCommerce, media, creative, shopper, technology and insights internal teams and external agencies—to develop, execute and steward integrated marketing strategy, content, and execution to optimize performance, efficiency and competitive position. As part of the larger global MIM team, this person will also have responsibilities for some global projects.
This Media Manager should possess a strong media background, ideally with experience on both the agency and client sides, with planning and buying experience across all media types, especially digital and eCommerce media and platforms. In addition, they should have media and connections strategy development in the NA media markets, and ideally global experience.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Strategy/Planning
- Drive implementation of the media-to-cart and omnichannel planning process, including setting timelines, managing completion of strategy and activation plans and presentations, and coordinating feedback across categories.
- Lead development of effective media strategies and plans for brands with media agencies and partners.
- Develop and continually work to optimize the media strategy, tactical planning and buying operations through process refinement and ensuring adherence internally and with our agency partners.
- Understand key media consumption trends and developments, bringing that understanding into creation of innovative brand media strategies and plans that leverage paid/owned/earned and shared platforms and partners.
- Drive and maximize commerce potential within media strategy development, based on market business problems to solve.
- Work closely with key SCJ stakeholders in markets (Marketing Commercialization teams, Omni-Shopper and eCommerce business leads) and the full inter-agency team, integrating eCommerce/retail and media plans to drive best in class omni-channel activations.
- Lead deployment of eCommerce/retail media plans in partnership with eCommerce/Customer Marketing teams and Media Agency.
- Focus on searching and re-applying best cases across brands and from other global markets and North America
- Partner with local Marketing Commercialization teams to manage agency briefing process and agency development of local strategies and plans.
- Review and align on media plans and changes with Marketing Commercialization teams.
- Monitor delivery of media plans, providing overall stewardship of SC Johnson investments, plans and inventory.
- Partner with Local Finance, Marketing stakeholders and Media Agency to prioritize, track and monitor budget changes and evolutions.
- Foster an environment of media evolution, learning and improvement. Work with the Media Agency and Consumer Insights and Business Analytics team (marketing research) to measure effectiveness of communication plans and develop a learning agenda focused on generating insights, best practices and future improvements of programs.
- Drive consistent application of SC Johnson Best Practices, periodic reporting and ensure use of SC Johnson and agency tools and processes (e.g., PlanIt, Redmill, Datorama).
- Assist in appropriate media capability training and education of Marketing Commercialization teams, with an aim to upskill our teams to be more consumer-centric and omnichannel.
Buying/Activation
- Collaborate with Marketing Commercialization teams and agencies to determine advertising inventory needs.
- Understand media marketplace trends and developments within and across relevant markets.
- Set aggressive, but achievable media investment efficiency and flexibility targets.
- Lead Agency in development of negotiation strategies, determining roles for self, Agency, and if appropriate, others (i.e., local General Manager/Marketing Director, Media and Integrated Marketing Director).
- Taking into account the strategic imperatives of the media plan (e.g. be willing to pay more for the right audience in the right context in order to drive effectiveness and sales)
- Lead implementation of negotiations strategies with the Media Agency in an effective and timely manner.
- Develop and evolve eCommerce and retail-enabled tactical media strategies through new and innovative ways of activations to drive improved conversion effectiveness and business results.
- Identify and develop opportunities to evolve and pioneer new ways of working, partnership and innovation with key media vendors, in partnership with the media agencies.
- Implement new ways of working and measurement to drive real time/in-flight optimization, exploring new ways or reaching consumers and tight evaluation of partners and test and learn opportunities.
Agency and Scope Management
- Support and collaborate with global MIM Directors and Sr Director to build, refine and negotiate the media agency scope, providing a strong POV on the unique needs and potential scale opportunities of North America.
- Monitor media agency scope utilization and escalate when potential issues on needs or opportunities for cost-savings may arise throughout the year.
- Partner with Marketing Commercialization to facilitate collaboration, understanding and shared solution-building alongside our media/omnichannel agency partners, including but not limited to our Media, eCommerce and PR/Influencer agencies.
- Collaborate with Global Marketing stakeholders (M2C, Marketing Operations & Technology, Category teams) as needed to provide context on regional/local problems to solve, media strategies and plans relevant to the development of larger SCJ and category/brand plans.
Required Skills / Experience / Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 7+ years communication and media planning and buying, with experience in performance marketing and omnichannel brand strategy desired
- Must have prior Agency experience

- Experience with and providing expert guidance for a broad range of media and digital marketing, including but not limited to search, brand website, content/media partnerships, PR/influencer marketing, social, eCommerce and retail-enabled media, and emerging platforms and technologies.
