Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced executive communications professional to join our team. The right person will bring strategic thinking, communications expertise, intellectual curiosity, project management expertise, energy and creativity to help our chief technology officer (CTO) find and tell stories authentically and impactfully to customers, external influencers and employees through speeches, presentations and written communications. Our ideal candidate has extensive experience working with senior executives and within technology groups or for a global technology company.
Responsibilities
- Think strategically to develop and execute an annual executive communications plan for our CTO in collaboration with other teams including public relations, social media and employee communications
- Manage and collaborate with an internal communications specialist supporting the CTO to drive alignment between external message and executive platform and internal communications strategy
- Work directly with our CTO, her chief of staff and key subject matter experts to develop the narrative arcs for and create keynotes, presentations and talks to be given to customers, shareholders, employees and influencers
- Develop ways to reuse this content by other leaders within the CTO’s group and in other parts of the company
- Support the CTO’s social media program by creating content; suggesting shares and amplifying existing Autodesk brand content; measuring impact and influence; and proposing new ways to engage on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and other platforms
- Participate in development of platform messaging and storyline, contribute to overall platform communications plan
- Help drive media coverage for our CTO, collaborating with PR team, and developing storylines, sourcing customer examples, and helping prepare her for media opportunities
- Lead a cohort of communicators in the CTO’s organization to ensure a consistent message and cohesive communications plan
- Deeply embed in the organization and participate in meetings as requested with the CTO and her staff, helping shape strategy, providing a point of view on what and how should be communicated, and debating that POV with direct staff
- Write long-form content and articles on behalf of our CTO for publication on Autodesk properties and third-party sites
- Pitch in where appropriate to help teammates out on high-priority executive communications or internal communications projects, regardless of executive being supported
- Participate as a communications leader in our annual engineering kickoff event, TechX
- Act as content creator and project manager for CTO’s content including keynotes, fireside chats and videos
- Collaborate across functions including production and technical leadership to execute
- Advise on speaker/programming choices for mainstage keynotes, and bring a POV on messaging to the broader event
Minimum Qualifications
- Understanding of Autodesk’s business and industries; experience in technology, SaaS, or software companies a plus
- Excellent writer, with the skills to distill complex content into clear, concise and engaging communications, and able to write with speed and accuracy;
- Strategic and creative thinker comfortable debating and defending her/his/their ideas
- Strong storyteller with the ability to create compelling narratives in support of our business strategies
- Experience developing and executing communications strategies, plans, programs and events
- Strong media relations experience
- Strong presence and confidence which will help build high credibility with senior executives
- Ability to influence without authority, across functions, geographies and levels, and the ability to work with various departments and teams to drive alignment and collaboration
- Ability to be flexible, proactive, work under deadlines, and ensure quality and accuracy
- Focused and performance-driven
- Strong attention to detail and project management skills
- 10+ years of experience in executive communications, public relations, and/or employee communications
- Exceptional PowerPoint and/or Keynote skills; knowledge of Photoshop, HTML and SharePoint a plus
- Four-year college degree (BS or BA), preferably in English, communications or journalism; or equivalent work experience and excellent writing and communications skills
- Occasional travel required

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $136,900 and $221,430. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
