Title And Summary

Director, Communications - Strategic Growth

The communications team is focused on driving programs and activities that will build, support and defend Mastercard’s reputation among key audiences. The broader team has been designed to closely mirror the business and support the company’s efforts in delivering world-class payments experiences.

This role will report to the senior vice president of communications for the Strategic Growth team and will be responsible for advancing the company’s reputation among customers, NGOs, policymakers, and investors through media, influencer and partner engagement. An important part of the role will be to connect dots between the work of the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth and the company’s products, solutions and objectives, supporting and reinforcing how Mastercard is a force for good in the world.

Role

  • Works in collaboration with the senior vice president of communications, the Strategic Growth communications team and the global communications leadership team to advance the company’s reputation among key internal and external stakeholders
  • Provides effective direction and counsel on executive speaking and editorial opportunities aligned to the company’s mission to do well by doing good
  • Handles sensitive/confidential information in a professional matter
  • Partners with several internal business units to identify and refine the Mastercard story across philanthropic, humanitarian, social impact, policy, and other subject areas
  • Partners with global and regional communications teams to tailor campaigns and tactics to match market needs and business priorities
  • Builds and leverages relationships with key media, social impact influencers and thought leaders, and industry partners to deliver a holistic traditional/earned media program in support of planned product/partner/service launches and corporate announcements
  • Contributes to the corporate news bureau/newsroom with idea generation and agency collaboration
  • Nurtures and develops positioning for products, services and initiatives that will help advance the company’s narrative around inclusive growth
  • Develops and edits briefing documents, external and internal editorial content, and messaging materials for senior executives and business partners
  • Plays a primary role in the communication response in urgent/reputational issues
  • Use measurement tools to assess the impact of communications programs and refine activities

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; flawless editing to support clear ideas
  • Strategic counselor with strong relationship development and management skills
  • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively with global, multi-cultural and remote business teams
  • Creative thinker who is energized by opportunities to draw component parts together into an impactful whole
  • Strong ability to prioritize, multitask, manage to deadlines, and support multiple stakeholders
  • High level of comfort in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • A passion for social impact, philanthropy, and sustainability
  • Demonstrated track record of securing media placements and building media, influencer, and thought leadership relationships
  • Experience working with NGOs, academic institutions, and policymakers advantageous
  • Experience supporting senior executives
  • Ability to translate complex business, social impact, and policy material into easily understood, actionable campaigns and content
  • Comfortable presenting complex issues to internal and external audiences
  • Issues and crisis management experience preferred

Purchase, New York: $151,000 - $233,000 USD

New York City, New York: $157,000 - $244,000 USD
