The North American Stores Marketing and Creative (NASMC) team is seeking an innovative and self-directed creative leader to shape the future of shopping. The ideal candidate is an experienced designer whose passion for creative is matched by their skills to drive imaging and flawless presentation executed across design systems and marketing channels. This role builds concepts, orchestrates digital and live photoshoots into compelling content, executed as highly defined High-Velocity Events (HVE) like Prime Day, engaging seasonal events (Easter, Valentine’s, Mother’s & Father’s Day, Halloween), and the beloved Prime membership program. The Creative Director excels in complex, fast-paced environments and is gifted in crafting truly, distinctive, and visually compelling concepts, even amidst the most intricate business and customer challenges.

This role aims to captivate customers' attention and imagination by diving deep into business data, perceptions, and behaviors, translating them into compelling creative. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of bringing exceptional ideas to life, and thrives as a passionate and communicative collaborator.

This role may be based in Seattle, Los Angeles, or New York.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead development of innovative retail events from concept to delivery, spanning cross-channel campaigns, digital/social efforts, with integrated influencer content.
  • Manage creative team (designers, copywriters, and external agencies) that develops scalable creative, producing high-visibility and impactful cross-category experiences
  • Translate strategy into imagery (product, and lifestyle photoshoots) crafting creative concepts into digital deliverables
  • Contribute to streamlining creative processes and integrating ways-of-working, aligning performance with goals/metrics for assets or deliverables
  • Identify innovative opportunities to innovate, transforming data to insight and solutions working closely with cross-functional partners and tech teams
  • Socialize and activate creative benchmarks and build playbooks for customer experiences, sharing roadmaps, prioritization, activations, and content creation opportunities.

As a cross-functional collaborator and team leader, you deliver across multiple, complex creative projects, while driving deadlines.

About The Team

The Creative & Design team is an award-winning, self-directed center of excellence providing end-to-end customer experiences for NA Stores and Prime. We shape Amazon's retail future by integrating strategy, innovative technology, and user experience to create solutions and explorative studies that innovate for our businesses. We create intuitive, personalized, and visually appealing on- and off-site cross-category shopping journeys so customers engage with new, popular, and relevant products, programs, and brands. We drive incremental cross-category discovery and engagement through integrated customer-facing features and experiences that matter.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years' experience in creative direction, brand strategy, or related roles, with proven results for businesses within an agency, consultancy, or similar field
  • Portfolio showcasing creative across brand campaigns, seasonal events and customer experiences with an expert understanding of design
  • Effective communication skills tailored for varying levels of seniority (including executive leadership), with exceptional presentation and writing abilities
  • Proven ability to support multiple projects, managing and prioritizing workload, unimpeded by challenges, and providing multiple solutions
  • Ability to drive alignment of strategic objectives for design executions and marketing activations against a brand framework or creative brief
  • Demonstrated art direction of lifestyle, product and digital photography, communicating needs and influences appropriately across internal and external teams
  • Engaging team leader with the ability to mentor and develop creative talent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a world-class creative agency or consultancy
  • Strong understanding of narrative and storytelling within a defined style of voice
  • Exceptional attention to detail, understanding UX principles and best practices
  • Proven track record of ownership and driving results across creative and design
  • Strong bias for action in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment
  • Experience uncovering trends and insights to drive customer engagement
  • Experience integrating creative strategies featuring digital (onsite and offsite), social, influencers and strategic partnerships

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $230,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
