The Pennington School is seeking applications for the position of Publications Manager. Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Publications Manager will assist in supporting the School's annual communications plan, which enthusiastically promotes The Pennington School and helps to develop community and institutional support by advancing both the mission and the goals of the School.

The Publications Manager will act as a production manager for all of the School's publications, website, and media relations needs. A bachelor's degree is required, along with 5-plus years of related work experience. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities are necessary. Strong webmaster skills, fluency with social media, and graphic design skills are preferred.

Flexible hours (occasional evenings and weekends), the ability to do what it takes to meet tight deadlines, and a good sense of humor are also required.

Essential Responsibilities

Content creator for social media, website, and print materials:

  • Assist with all publications and media relations needs, including development and writing of website content and updates, press releases, writing for printed magazines and brochures, weekly email to parents, monthly media reports, newsletters, and more
  • Develop ideas, conduct interviews, write, edit, and publish stories for website, social media, and special events and projects
  • Social media marketing content development and curator of content calendar
  • Cover daily life at the School and newsworthy and special events with written stories and candid photography/videography (some evenings and weekends are required)
  • Manage website updates; including creating and managing online forms and calendars

Production Management

  • Obtain estimates for jobs, track project status, and follow up to ensure deadlines are met
  • Coordinate with other departments to manage and track projects
  • Source promotional items as needed
  • Manage purchase orders, assist with general administrative tasks and procedures

Design/other Responsibilities

  • Design invitations, programs, and other promotional materials as needed
  • Proofread emails, letters, and other materials as needed
  • Support other Communications team members as needed
  • Enthusiastically promote The Pennington School to prospective families and help to develop community and institutional support by advancing both the mission and the goals of the School

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • 5-plus years of related work experience in communications and/or marketing; ad agency (writing, editing, production, and proofreading)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Graphic design skills
  • Fluency in social media
  • Experience with website design and content management
  • Self-starter; able to manage multiple priorities in order to meet deadlines
  • Team player
  • Ability to work on a wide range of projects and switch gears as needed
  • Proficiency in Google applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends to cover School events
  • Good sense of humor and a "can-do" attitude
  • Knowledge of SEO strategies and optimization
  • Fluency with Google analytics
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, and Illustrator, as well as knowledge of HTML, is preferred
  • Photography and video production skills are a plus
  • Independent school experience is a plus

This position is a fast-paced, full-time, twelve (12) months per year position, exempt from overtime, and eligible for all benefits afforded to full-time Pennington School employees.
