About The Commercial Strategy Team
The Commercial Strategy team sits within the Business Development & Commercial Programs org and is responsible for helping take ideas from 0 to 1 by leading strategic initiatives and bets, and partnering cross functionally with other teams to test, experiment, and implement new strategies. In addition to driving new growth, the Commercial Strategy team owns and executes strategic programs that sit at the intersection of multiple teams and functions, and is the center of excellence for continuous improvement, focused on how to drive operational efficiency and rigor as we scale. The team goes where the problems are and are key to enabling future growth opportunities.
About The Role
The Sr. Commercial Strategy manager is a “super generalist” that leads various projects, initiatives, and programs. You are a master problem solver that thrives in ambiguity, and brings structure to the chaos that enables initiatives to scale and grow efficiently. You are a “master” influencer that can partner and empathize with people and teams across all functions, including Product, Marketing, GTM, Finance, Operations, Support, etc., to ensure successful outcomes. You think five steps ahead and are the ideal partner for cross-functional teams throughout the company in helping assess future opportunities for Thumbtack’s growth. You are able to tackle Thumbtack’s most pressing problems, and are always up for a challenge.
Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize initiatives that support our biggest bets and create the greatest impact, while being agile and quickly pivoting as priorities change
- Partner with teams across Thumbtack to identify opportunities, develop winning strategies, and effectively operationalize these strategies
- Support critical projects (major initiatives and smaller bets) E2E from project identification all the way through project completion and follow up
- Enable process improvements throughout the company to ensure operational rigor and excellence
- Develop, test, and incubate new ideas (products and businesses)
- Support ad hoc analysis and project work (e.g., board prep, planning, goal setting, competitive analysis)
- Own, execute, and improve strategic programs that drive revenue and profitable growth.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in General Management, Business Operations, GTM / Business Strategy, Business Development, Management Consulting or similar roles and experiences
- Comfortable with ambiguity and building frameworks and plans to provide necessary structure
- Demonstrated ability to build strong cross functional relationships and influence leaders at all levels
- Experience setting and achieving revenue goals or other financial metrics
- Technology enthusiast, positively curious, and eager to build and learn
- Comfortable being at the intersection of strategy, operations, business development, and technology
- Owner attitude and mentality that rolls up your sleeves to “Get Stuff Done”
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience working for a company offering services through an online Marketplace
- Ability to work cross-functionally within an organization to drive successful outcomes and shared goals
- Comfortable working in a highly entrepreneurial environment and building new processes from the ground up
- Proficient in SQL and analytics tools (Looker, Tableau)
- Proficient in systems and tools (Salesforce)

For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $136,000 - $184,000 . Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $115,600 - $156,400 . Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
