The person who joins our editorial team will be dedicated to conveying the voice of the Rolling Stone brand across all subject areas – music, culture, politics, entertainment – and manage the flow of news and stories during a 24/7 news cycle. The Social Media Manager is responsible for developing audience growth on social channels, managing various social feeds – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, etc. – along with strategizing ways to increase brand presence in a constantly changing media environment. You will bring the latest insights, trends and best practices to the organization as they relate to our dedicated readers while also expanding an audience that intersects with pop culture and politics. In addition, this role works closely with our sales and marketing team as we continue to develop the business side of the social platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and strengthen our social strategy to increase website traffic and boost user engagement on all platforms
- Collaborate closely with Rolling Stone editors, writers, and creative teams to drive cohesive vision
- Work in tandem with video producers and photo editors to develop a social influencer strategy that amplifies brand messages and storytelling; work with video team on creating strategy for sharing original and other video on various platforms
- Post new content in a timely manner and promote content in a consistent manner with the rest of our content.
- Manage social media editor(s) who also maintain calendars, schedules, anniversaries and milestones
- Remaining nimble to recognize that breaking news, award shows or other events are often not during business hours, seeking flexibility with scheduling to accommodate various needs
- Work with sales and marketing to develop strategy for branded and sponsored content on social platforms — as well as manage/capture coverage of live events
- Write, edit and schedule the posting of content adhering to clearly defined KPIs
Skills needed:
- Someone with a genuine passion for social media and intellectual curiosity about how people engage on social as well as being a skilled multitasker who can bounce between numerous platforms
- Creative thinker who can create original/social-only “stories” and other content for engagement
- Someone with excellent communication, cross-group collaboration, and planning skills
- Familiarity with Google Analytics and Excel and able to look at data to tell a story and pick out trends
- Familiarity with tools such as Chartbeat, CrowdTangle, etc. to see what is happening on the site to make strategic decisions on what evergreen content from the week to promote.
- Ability to present social strategies and business results to senior leadership
- Someone with a mastery of both SEO and social optimization.
- Insatiable curiosity and a sense of humor
- 3-5 years of experience in digital media or marketing
- Digital journalism background a plus
