VP, Commercial Partnerships

This is a leadership role within the North American trading organization. The VP, Commercial Partnerships will set our strategic direction on who our major commercial partnerships should be, executing against those partnerships, and ensuring that the team and direct reports are delivering this at scale across the business. You will report into the EVP Commercial. Working collaboratively to define and implement a plan that allows the US trading team to achieve its goals.
The VP, Partnerships will bring a deep understanding of the media landscape, including tools, platforms, and the financial and compliance frameworks that underpin principal media and proprietary/value-based solutions. This includes expertise in pricing strategy, principal trading and buying, and yield management. Leading commercial, sales, or trading teams, along with experience managing budgets and overseeing media or business portfolios.
In this role, the Vice President will lead and grow the Commercial Partnerships team—developing talent, evaluating performance, and guiding professional growth. This position also plays a key role in broader agency initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams across the dentsu network, contributing to new business efforts, and participating in organizational learning and development.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies, negotiates, and delivers commercial partnerships with existing and new partners across media, technology and content ecosystems. Ensures the correct processes, structures and talent are in place within the wider team to execute this core requirement effectively.
- Consistently source the wider ecosystem for new opportunities, and ensure that any potential opportunities can be quickly converted for maximum value. Experience in either content/format development, entertainment, sponsorships, influencer marketing and/or digital performance marketing is preferred.
- Working with the EVP Commercial, define the annual trading and commercial strategy, and ensure that this is landed across their wider team, and ultimately executed
- Working with the EVP Commercial to create and maintain a pipeline of commercial opportunities that ultimately deliver against the financial growth targets across the region
- Analyzing data and understanding market patterns in order to generate strategic revenue opportunities
- Recognizes the general media landscape, including leading and emerging media channels/partners
- Collaborates with internal team to contribute to day-to-day strategic work for client(s) & commercial analysis for deals and partnerships
- Oversees the financial tracking and reporting of deals and client spend trends
Client & Internal Relationships
- Manage expectations for deliverables and ensure that feedback from teams is addressed in negotiation process
- Thorough understanding of all elements of investment and revenue-generating partnerships and contracts/agreements
- Looks to identify opportunities to improve revenue generation, whether by creating new products/partnerships, identifying new partners or client opportunities, or margin improvement
- Serve as a resource for Directors, VPs, VPs, for advice, counsel and mentorship
- Participate and present in New Business efforts and presentations, where appropriate
- Establish strong internal relationships with other service line personnel
Strategic Thinking & Leadership
- Balance, prioritize and properly assign work associated with multiple, concurrent projects
- Provide guidance to team members and nurture/promote team environment
- Ensure key information is being provided to the team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status, etc.
- Is approachable and solution-oriented when presented with problems/issues by staff and team
- Responsible for constructing and delivering accurate, honest and timely performance management documents
- Is mindful of the client’s point of view when reviewing work, leverage this perspective when providing feedback to team
- Breaks down problems and issues into critical parts which can be resolved
- Oversees management of specific projects as assigned and maintain overall plan quality control
- Is an engaged member of the media industry, and proactively solicits and contributes innovative ideas
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- 15+ years of analytical experience within media environment (sales or agency), experience in a barter, trading division, procurement or commercial division preferred.
- Strong negotiator, with experience of managing a portfolio of multi-million dollar deals at once
- An ability to balance commercial necessity while being client centric at all points
- Experience in knitting together internal capabilities (technology, tools) with partner capabilities to generate novel offerings and/or product lines
- Possesses advanced numeracy skills and a data-led approach to decision making
- Ability to articulate strategic foundation for their development
- Strong industry profile within the US market, as well as proven leadership skills and management experience

The annual base salary range for this position is $113,000-$182,850. Placement within the salary range is based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other factors permitted by law. Additionally, this position is eligible for discretionary incentive compensation.
