Position Summary
Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Marketing oversees the planning, implementation and evaluation of all marketing activities including positioning, placement, advertising, digital media and public relations. Creates and implements marketing strategies and tactics that ensure that all marketing initiatives focus on achieving maximum revenues in line with the sales goals for the hotel. As part of the hotel's Executive team, s/he will support and drive broader hotel culture and operational initiatives by leading with integrity and professionalism.
Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Develops the resort's annual marketing plan and budget; creates overall marketing strategy to support sales objectives and goals.
- Manages and directs team of marketing professionals on site; provides guidance and facilitates an open-door communication policy with all team members.
- Creates and maintains strategic alliances and community partners with local, national and other organizations to further increase brand/product awareness.
- Develops and implements innovative communications, public/media relations programs to increase awareness and present a positive perception of the resort to grow market share, maximize revenues and profitability. Develops media programs and may act as designated hotel spokesperson with the media. Coordinates press FAM trips and journalists' property visits. Distributes media alerts to all applicable departments. Maintains records/files of all communications and coverage. Plans and directs the development of all media informational materials, photography, newsletters and other communications necessary to publicize and promote the property and programs.
- Manages the resort's social media strategy and provides regular communications on all identified social media sites/blogs, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc. Cross-promotes with other PHG properties. Conducts outreach to key social media influencers to arrange hosted visits and partnerships for favorable coverage of the resort.
- Manages the relationship with the resort's advertising agency to include online ads, PPC campaigns, website, collateral (digital and print), email marketing, CRM and eventprogramming. Creates campaigns for the Spa, meetings and the signature restaurant to dovetail with overall hotel marketing strategy.
- Analyzes requirements of marketing opportunities. Researches and maintains knowledge of market trends, competition and loyal customers. Analyzes property data and makes recommendations regarding course of action related to marketing. Provides timely reports and data regarding success of programs.
- Attends Business Review Meetings; shares social media feedback and insights; strategizes and consults with the General Manager and Executive team to ensure online comments are addressed and our social media presence is both responsive and robust.
- Travels as needed to meet with partners, alliances, other PHG properties, etc. Attends property events and designated trade or media events.
- Oversees all photo shoots and on-site filming; ensures brand standards are consistently met during creation and execution of photo/video content.
Qualifications (relevant Experience, Education And Training)
- Five or more years of related hospitality marketing experience, with a demonstrated pattern of increased marketing responsibilities is required. Must possess expert level knowledge of traditional and modern marketing tactics including print, media, social media, influencer and experiential marketing.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, hospitality or related field is required.
- Strong leadership skills, with a dedication to team member development; prior experience managing a team is required.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills are necessary for this role. The successful candidate will be a fluid and adaptable communicator who possesses a charismatic ability to tell our story, resulting in driving revenues and exceeding sales objectives for the hotel.
- Prior experience with crisis communication tactics; prior experience as a designated spokesperson for the hotel/organization is desired.
- Possess a solid knowledge about the culture, attractions and history of the area and property. Awareness of current events and market competition (publicity, packages, events, etc.) Excellent media, community and business contacts locally, regionally and nationally. Demonstrated successful track record of creating and implementing successful marketing strategies that drive and support the overall sales goals of the hotel is required.
- Must have strong organizational skills to plan press FAM trips, prepare press releases, create newsletters, prepare e-blasts as well as organize direct mail pieces.
- Requires working knowledge of MS Office applications, Publisher, Photoshop and other property/industry specific related software.
Special Skills & Abilities/Mental And Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job the Team Member regularly sits for sustained periods of time and stands and walks occasionally when working with potential customers to present information and tour the property. The Team Member occasionally grasps objects such as presentation materials. The Team Member occasionally reaches by extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction while performing essential functions of the job. The Team Member frequently talks when communicating with current or potential clients and staff. The Team Member frequently needs to hear voices while interacting with potential customers, guests and staff. Many aromas and smells are present in the dining areas. Exerts up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects such as sales materials. The Team Member is required to have close visual acuity to operate a computer. The Team Member is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the sales materials and contracts.
The Team Member is primarily subject to environmental conditions found working inside. The Team Member is occasionally subject to loud noise (or music) when working in or around the property. The Team Member is occasionally subject to atmospheric condition such as fumes, odors, or dusts.
