The Opportunity

We’re seeking a VP of Marketing to help lead mBIOTA’s brand portfolio - scaling our established therapeutic nutrition product (mBIOTA Elemental) while also launching our new consumer-facing health and wellness brand built around our flagship clinical innovation. This is a rare opportunity to both scale a proven product and build a new one from the ground up - transforming our business from an emerging, science-backed health startup into a category-defining lifestyle health brand.

You’ll help lead brand strategy, storytelling, PR, influencer, organic content, and experiential - partnering with leadership to shape our platform, refine our voice and visual identity, and create the emotional and cultural relevance that brings our science to life.

This isn’t a typical VP Marketing role - it’s for someone who’s been in the seat before, helped take a brand from early traction to national recognition, and thrives at the intersection of mission, medicine, and marketing - with both strategic depth and hands-on capability.

Key Responsibilities

Brand Leadership & Strategy

  • Guide positioning and marketing strategies across a multi-brand portfolio - focusing near-term on scaling mBIOTA Elemental while helping to prepare and launch a new-to-market consumer-facing brand.
  • Develop and continuously refine mBIOTA’s brand platforms - mission, narrative, positioning, tone, and visual identity - rooted in patient empathy and scientific credibility.
  • Act as the steward of the brands across every touchpoint, collaborating with leadership to ensure consistency and alignment
  • Elevate the design, storytelling, and user experience of the brands to match our science-backed innovation.

PR, Communications & Thought Leadership

  • Lead mBIOTA’s earned media and public relations strategy, developing a strong press presence in health, business, lifestyle, and science verticals.
  • Build and manage media relationships, execute launches, and create a steady cadence of high-value brand moments.
  • Shape executive thought leadership and owned media efforts, including op-eds, blog content, and industry commentary.

Content, Campaigns & Creative Direction

  • Balance storytelling and growth initiatives across both an established healthcare-adjacent brand and emerging consumer lifestyle brand - with attention to clear differentiation between brands.
  • Own advertising campaigns/brand messaging from inception to market, partnering with in-house and outside agency partners to concept and ship campaigns that blend performance with brand-building.
  • Architect integrated brand calendars, and lead development of storytelling content across web, social, and email.
  • Guide creative development (internal and/or agency) to ensure exceptional taste, clarity, and cohesion.

Events & Experiential

  • Design activations tailored to distinct audiences across the portfolio - from practitioner-driven engagements for mBIOTA Elemental to consumer-facing brand experiences for new launches.
  • Concept, plan, and execute experiential activations, IRL brand moments, and community engagements that bring the mBIOTA brand to life in meaningful ways - from wellness summits to practitioner dinners to pop-up activations.
  • Manage event agencies or partners as needed, ensuring that design, message, and tone reflect our brand’s aesthetic and values.
  • Ensure events drive both brand affinity and strategic growth goals.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner directly with the CEO, COO, and Founder to ensure brand and communications strategies support the company’s broader vision and milestones
  • Collaborate closely with our existing marketing team, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and alignment on messaging, content, and campaign execution.
  • Build and manage a lean but high-performing brand and marketing team - freelancers, agency partners, and (eventually) additional internal hires.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to align messaging across paid and organic.
  • Work cross-functionally through the organization to ensure brand expression is aligned, consistent, and infused with purpose across all touchpoints.

What You Bring

  • 15+ years of experience in brand, communications, or content leadership at high-growth, design-forward consumer brands (CPG, DTC, health/wellness, beauty, or food/bev ideal).
  • Proven success in launching and building a brand through high-growth phases (from ~$1-3M to $20M+ or similar scale).
  • Deep understanding of integrated marketing, owned and earned media, and the nuance required to build consumer trust.
  • Sophisticated taste and creative direction instincts - you know when a brand “feels off,” and you know how to fix it.
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, and narrative development capabilities.
  • Experience working with or managing external PR, creative, and content agencies.
  • Experience developing or overseeing experiential/event activations and translating brand DNA into physical space.
  • Confident team builder and cross-functional partner, comfortable toggling between strategic planning and rolling up your sleeves.
  • Passion for science-backed health solutions and improving patient outcomes.

What Success Looks Like

In the first 3-6 months, you’ll:

  • Deliver a refreshed brand strategy, messaging framework, and content calendar for mBIOTA Elemental.
  • Audit and realign agency/vendor relationships.
  • Launch foundational brand campaigns and PR activations to scale awareness of our therapeutic nutrition brand while laying groundwork for upcoming consumer-facing launch.

In the first 12-18 months, you’ll:

  • Establish mBIOTA as the leading voice in clinically backed GI health.
  • Lead the brand strategy and go-to-market roadmap for our consumer-facing product launch.
  • Own the brand budget and team roadmap.
  • Drive measurable lift in brand awareness, earned media reach, and customer affinity across the portfolio.

Bonus Experience

  • Experience balancing portfolio marketing - scaling an established product while launching a new-to-market consumer brand.
  • Working knowledge of the intersection between brand and paid growth.
  • Familiarity with healthcare-adjacent or regulated industries, or translating complex ideas (e.g. clinical studies) into simple, compelling messaging.
