Summary
National Geographic is seeking a dynamic strategic partner to the President of National Geographic, Content. This key leadership role will drive operational excellence, facilitate executive decision-making, and ensure alignment across teams. This position will report directly to the President, National Geographic Content.

This role will act as a trusted advisor, problem solver, culture carrier, and effective communicator, significantly contributing to the execution of National Geographic’s strategic vision. In this position you will have the opportunity to contribute to a wide breadth of areas – high-level strategy, organizational culture, business prioritization, communications, and more. As such, this role demands a deep thinker with analyst qualities who can both sweat the details without losing sight of the bigger and broader business vision.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic Alignment and Execution:

  • Partner closely with the President to develop, communicate, and execute the strategic vision of National Geographic.
  • Ensure executive priorities are effectively articulated, cascaded, and executed across all organizational levels.
  • Facilitate long-term planning, strategic goal setting, and priority alignment with internal stakeholders.
  • Enable the President and Executive Team with the right information at the right time for decision-making
  • Conduct research, analysis, and due diligence on key strategic and operational matters.

Operational Leadership:

  • Manage the operational rhythm of the Office and Executive Team including driving optimization of the President’s time, schedule, and priorities.
  • Mentor and lead President’s Executive Assistant fostering an environment of innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.
  • Drive structure, content (e.g. assets, presentation), and timely execution of:

    • National Geographic All-Hands Meetings
    • President’s Executive Weekly Leadership Meetings and Offsites/Events
    • C-Suite Executive Creative and Strategy Meetings
    • Nat Geo Society and Nat Geo Board Presentations and Meetings
  • Collaborate with Finance to monitor and manage President’s Office budget
  • Oversee and manage President’s recurring leadership meetings owning agenda development and meeting execution in partnership with Executive Assistant
  • Lead and execute special initiatives, strategic projects, and/or cross-functional efforts as directed by the President

Communication and Coordination:

  • Manage an effective informational network within the organization to deeply understand needs and challenges via pulse checks.
  • Act as a central liaison and bridge, effectively managing communication between the President, executive leadership, and broader National Geographic staff.
  • Facilitate executive decision-making by synthesizing complex information and providing clear, actionable insights.
  • Ensure clarity and alignment of consistent messaging internally and externally, reflecting National Geographic’s mission and values.
  • Work in deep collaboration and partnership with Corp Communications, Internal Communications, and PR Communications teams for key internal presentations and gatherings including All-Staff meetings, org-facing announcements, timely communications and memos.
  • Represent the President in key meetings and events as necessary, ensuring alignment and continuity.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of professional management experience
  • Ability to use good judgement when navigating complexity
  • Demonstrates care in keeping sensitive information confidential
  • Exceptional diplomacy and tact
  • Effective influencer and collaborator
  • History of driving complex projects in the face of ambiguity
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient/Expert in Microsoft Suite and Apple Keynote
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or equivalent
  • Previous media experience
  • Experience supporting senior executive or C-suite leadership

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required


The hiring range for this position in Washington, D.C. is $113,800.00 to $152,500.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
