Job Objective

This position serves as a member of the Marketing Team within the Strategic Events, Meetings & Incentives (SEM&I) Business Unit of MCI USA. The Marketing Strategist will lead the strategic marketing direction specific to MCI’s Owned Assets, including Cannabis Business Events (a partnership with the National Cannabis Industry Association), Campus Party Techfest USA, and Lift&Co Expo, as well as for SEMI client events where marketing is part of the scope of work.

This position is responsible for developing the overarching marketing strategy that will serve as the creative driving force behind all significant Owned Asset and SEMI client campaigns. They will determine the messaging, packaging, promotion, and place of distribution across a variety of initiatives, leveraging data analytics and competitive research. Applying cross-platform knowledge (digital, advertising, entertainment, mobile, social) to engage consumers from a 360 purview.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Create and execute comprehensive and strategic multi-channel marketing plans for MCI USA Owned Asset and SEMI events—for both attendee acquisition and sponsorship sales—setting priorities, defining goals and objectives, assigning responsibilities, and approving work output;
  • Coordinate the execution of marketing plans with the assistance of SEM&I marketing team across various channels, including e-blasts, publications, blogs, websites, social media, public relations, media and corporate partnerships, etc;
  • Collaborate with staff in multiple departments to develop and implement communication strategies and shape messaging across event initiatives and media to reach a variety of audiences;
  • Identify industry social media influencers and develop and execute an influencer campaign strategy;
  • Develop and maintain event-specific marketing and communications calendars;
  • Define marketing analytics and create or supervise the creation of dashboards and reports to measure all aspects of marketing campaigns;
  • Oversee event websites, social media presence and digital and print communications, including content generation and delivery across industries;
  • Develop and maintain industry and public relations strategies;
  • Drive and manage events’ online reputation and search engine optimization;
  • Support the on-going evolution and development of MCI Owned Asset brands;
  • Forecast and manage marketing & communication budgets for MCI Owned Assets;
  • Coordinate outside vendors related to marketing initiatives and media relations;
  • Participate in team meetings and prepare applicable reports and presentations;
  • Create post-event report dashboards; and
  • Work with event sales team to develop innovative approaches to exhibitor outreach and create marketing emails and collateral.

Job Requirements

Beyond a passion for marketing, communications and events and 5+ years of experience in developing and executing integrated marketing strategies, the position requires:

  • The ability to think strategically and act tactically
  • Excellent copy writing skills and a content marketing expert
  • The ability to effectively lead team members to produce desired results while maintaining employee satisfaction
  • A broad understanding and/or experience with social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Snapchat, etc.
  • Well-versed at email marketing, blogs, websites, SEO
  • Must have strong organizational and multi-project management skills
  • An understanding of the Cannabis industry marketplace is desired
  • A degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations is preferred
