The Senior Director will deeply understand how to help ambitious Fortune 500 businesses build and enhance their corporate brand reputation and affinity by “standing for more” in the context of today’s environment. He/ She/ They should understand how brands gain relevance and increase resonance by anticipating, harnessing and navigating through the issues and opportunities within their industries, culture and society. The ideal candidate has a background in corporate communications, advocacy and/or corporate marketing, and has a track record of bringing forth ideas and activating in ways that help organizations cut through and build brand strength.

He/She/They will lead a client portfolio that will develop cohesive, integrated and innovative corporate marketing and communications recommendations and programming. The candidate will have proven success in a highly dynamic, rapidly changing environment and must be resourceful, flexible, and capable of dealing with ambiguity, adversity, change, and real-time adjustments to projects and plans. Candidate will ideally be able to work effectively and gain respect of diverse groups, including clients, colleagues, and other partners.

Requirements include expertise in developing comprehensive corporate brand campaigns; thought leadership platforms; partnership programs; internal employee communications; crisis management; and issues counseling for high-profile global clients. Expertise navigating communications challenges in the health, technology and education sectors is a plus. Experience with ESG, consumer advocacy, creative issues campaigns, and earned media is also desirable.

The Senior Director will ensure APCO remains competitive by identifying and converting new business and growing current clients. The Senior Director will report to the New York managing director.

Overview of Responsibilities:

Corporate Brand Reputation: organic growth and new business development - Lead the charge in securing and building client business focused on corporate brand building, marketing, awareness, positioning and reputation. A key element of the role will be working across practices and geographies, in partnership with client leaders and subject matter experts, to drive growth and support business development together with the APCO Ideas Team and the Global Creative Director.

Client Lead: Senior account lead and strategist on core corporate business initiatives and clients. Partners with APCO’s Global Key Client program leaders in order to grow client business, advise on program structure to optimize growth opportunities, lead select ideation or new business opportunities with Key Client teams, and enhance opportunities for staff throughout the firm.

Offer Definition: The successful candidate will help define and set direction for APCO’s trailblazing corporate brand reputation offering and serve as client lead on select businesses.

The Successful Senior Director Will:

  • Drive New Business – Bring the full global power of APCO forward to win new clients and expand existing ones within the Corporate Advisory and Advocacy framework. Understand the corporate market and opportunities across the globe; maintain deep connections in C-Suite environments and authentically introduce APCO to help drive success. Maintain an external profile as an innovative thought leader.
  • Maintain Client Oversight – Identify and expand Key Client relationships through C-suite engagement, specifically working to nurture and grow current Key Client accounts.
  • Actively Network – Nurture and grow new business prospects and talent for the firm, work with colleagues and managers to propose innovative ideas that increase market share for the business.
  • Deliver on KPIs – Outline and meet or exceed assigned new business and personal KPI targets.
  • Meet Qualifications: Qualifications for the role include, 20+ years of experience in corporate communications, corporate marketing, brand communications, public relations and/or public affairs. Ability to work with stakeholders and colleagues cross-platform, cross-office, cross-industry. Ability to sell in creative communications programs that deliver for clients cross-discipline, including communications, paid and earned social, influencer marketing, digital, content development and experiential marketing. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a proven ability to develop business strategy and drive results.
