Position Summary: The Communications Coordinator supports the Communications Manager, their peers, and key stakeholders to ensure effective daily operations of MA communications efforts. Communication efforts include researching information about local businesses, curating social media content, curating and drafting website content, writing and researching content for social media posts on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, gathering information for weekly and bi-weekly newsletters, designing digital and deliverable content through Canva and InDesign, maintaining company brand standards, supporting the Midtown Farmers Market Manager with market operations and day-of market communications and social media, and other duties as assigned.

What is a Midtown Association Coordinator? Coordinators have knowledge and experience with social media communications including technical aspects and requirements of various platforms, and have writing, editing and proofreading skills, including proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence construction and formatting styles to clearly and effectively communicate ideas and information across a variety of digital and social media platforms. Coordinators have experience meeting tight deadlines and balancing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while completing projects with excellence, applying good judgment when working with sensitive information, and have experience working collaboratively and productively with diverse groups of individuals at all levels within a complex organization, and often with wide differences of opinion. Coordinators maintain and build key partnerships in the community to ensure the success of the organization and have experience using interpersonal communication and public relation skills to develop and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Work Environment: The work environment for the Communications Coordinator is located primarily inside at the MA office, outside on Saturday at the Midtown Farmers Market, or at employee’s home location working remotely if COVID regulations require. The environment consists of tasks involving using computer software to create digital communications. Must be able to work around varying degrees of noise. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Benefits: This is a full time, hourly position at no less than 40 hours per week. Schedule of the office is generally Tuesday through Friday, 8 am until 5 pm, and at the Midtown Farmers Market on Saturday 6 am until 3 pm, however this position may have variations for meetings, special events, and special projects. MA has a very generous benefit package after the introductory period; sick time, 12 days of vacation plus public holidays, 401k with 5% match, Flex-spend account, Medical, Life, Dental, Vision and Alternative Care Insurance, and Parking.

Salary: COE but anticipated range is $16-$19 per hour

Basic Employment Qualifications & Requirements:

Required

  • 2 – 3 years of professional or related experience
  • Associate’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, or related field
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English
  • Knowledge and experience with social media platforms including, but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest
  • Experience with email programs such as Gmail and Outlook
  • Copywriting and editing skills
  • An aptitude to understand how to follow brand guidelines and communications strategy
  • Ability to curate creative and unique content
  • Comfortability working individually and with a team
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and provide quality outcomes
  • Reliable transportation
  • Expectation of pre-employment background checks and drug screening including cannabis

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, or related field
  • Reliable at-home technology for if remote work is required
  • Experience using Canva to create digital and deliverable designs
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign to create digital and deliverable designs
  • Experience drafting newsletters and emails using Mailchimp
  • Experience shooting and editing lifestyle photos and videos

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Social Media (Estimated at 15 hours per week)

  • Research upcoming events, activations, and business specials in order to provide updated social media content
  • Curate social media content for Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for all MA accounts and implement a social media posting schedule for all internal postings
  • Maintain consistent MA brand voice and tone for all social media platforms and posts
  • Draft social media and digital media recap reports for key stakeholders on behalf of Manager outlining recent mentions and spotlights on MA social media platforms
  • Assist Communications Manager to coordinate influencer takeovers and influencer previews
  • Spend time interacting with social media audiences and increasing profile exposure; liking photos, commenting, sharing posts, etc.

Digital Media, Newsletters & Graphic Design (Estimated at 15 hours per week)

  • Under Manager direction, gather specific and relevant content for weekly and bi-weekly BID newsletters, specialty newsletters, and Stakeholder newsletters each via Mailchimp
  • Maintain electronic photography and design files
  • Work with Manager to ensure the proper implementation and brand management of MA logos per the Brand Standards Guide
  • Assist with basic Canva templates for Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook when needed
  • Update existing designs in InDesign and Canva for internal and external communication purposes
  • Provide other design assistance to Manager when needed

Midtown Farmers Market & Event Support (Estimated at 10 hours per week)

  • Assist the Midtown Farmers Market Manager with operations of the market including, but not limited to, vendor assignments, vendor load-in and load-out, vendor questions, and visitor questions
  • Manage the Midtown Farmers Market social media accounts during the market by reposting, responding to comments and direct messages, and posting content
  • Collect content for “Vendor Spotlights” to post on social media at a later time
  • Collect photos of the market, produce, vendors, visitors, and other lifestyle images
  • Support Event Manager and Communications Manager at Midtown Association events when needed
  • Support Communications Manager with needed tasks involving the Event Support Program
  • Other duties as assigned

General Tasks

  • Fulfill assigned tasks discussed from weekly check-in with Manager
  • Prepare for/attending meetings as relevant
  • Take photos at MA events, Midtown activations, and Placemaking projects when applicable
  • Other duties as assigned
