THE OPPORTUNITY
As Director of Digital & Content you will be responsible for bringing stories to life through dynamic content and communication strategies across our digital platforms. You will oversee and empower a talented team of professionals to develop and execute content strategies across web and social, as well as support app and email executions in our fast-paced, ever-evolving sports environment. We are seeking a creative, results-oriented, tech-forward, soccer-savvy leader who is passionate about dynamic content, and eager to contribute to cultivating an inclusive, communicative, and creative work environment and team culture.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership Responsibilities
- Recruit, retain, coach and manage a high performing team of full-time and freelance talent who develop and distribute content across web, social, and app.
- Be a team leader who sets aspirational goals, develops enthusiasm towards success and ensures effective teamwork and coordination between roles across the club.
- Lead, develop and empower the team to develop integrated content strategies across platforms that achieve business objectives.
- Contribute to the design and adoption of shared tools and processes across marketing functions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Digital Channel Strategy & Execution
- Leverage an understanding of channel best practices as well as emerging technologies and trends to define and execute optimized channel-specific and integrated content distribution strategies.
- Lead the team to ensure website best practices are followed, including but not limited to SEO optimization, strong UI/UX, and mobile-friendly execution of content and page design.
- Support a paid social strategy, working cross functionally at times with ticketing, corporate partnerships to understand goals and communicate results and insights.
- Contribute to the long-term understanding of the customer journey, audience segmentation and growth strategy.
Content Strategy & Oversight
- Oversee the Digital and Content team to help develop strategic content plan and editorial calendars that support business objectives around audience growth and engagement.
- Support the Digital & Content team’s editorial ideation process and challenge them to create engaging content for a variety of digital and social media platforms.
- Provide clear, actionable feedback to the Digital & Content team throughout content development, execution, and results analysis stage.
- Ensure consistency in brand voice across channels and uphold visual standards at all times.
- Evolve the influencer strategy as it relates to content and social media collaborations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with design and video teams, as well as corporate partnerships, to deliver best-in-class branded content across owned-channels.
- Collaborate with marketing counterparts to concept, plan and execute brand campaigns.
- Partner with PR to coordinate team coverage, news and announcements.
- Identify and implement new revenue-generating opportunities with Corporate Partnerships, Merchandise and Ticketing.
- Partner across departments to examine data and apply insights to digital strategies.
- Participate in organizational brand strategy and planning process.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 8+ years Digital Marketing experience with focus in sports or entertainment industries.
- 3+ years experience leading and developing digital marketing teams including experience managing virtual teams across functions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven experience crafting data informed editorial and content strategies, plans and calendars to align with strategic priorities.
- A professional level knowledge of industry standard software and technology.
- Experience with Forge CMS, Tableau and/or CRM a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Passion for soccer and in depth understanding of music and culture
- Understands, or can quickly learn, the club’s history, the North American soccer scene, and MLS.
- Bring a positive, enthusiastic, and solution-oriented attitude to all challenges
- Highly collaborative leader who can build trust, influence, inspire, and motivate at all levels within an organization.
- Passion for fostering diverse, inclusive and high performing teams
- Understanding of latest in marketing technology across web, email and social channels.
- Strong understanding of how all forms of content support a seamless digital-physical fan journey.
- Understanding of CRM and web/mobile design principles.
- Understands end-to-end digital journey, including purchase funnel and post-purchase interactions.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, analytical and program management skills
- Strong attention to detail in planning and execution, while maintaining a big picture perspective.
- Spanish fluency a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is remote for 2021, except for mandatory participation in all Sounders FC events and matchdays in accordance with applicable COVID-19 health policies.
- Some evening and weekend work will be required, including home and away matches.
- Employee must be able to facilitate own local travel.
- Due to the nature of this role’s event and matchday work, employee must live within the greater Seattle area.
