About this study
Researchers at MIT, Harvard, and Northwestern are studying the creators shaping political and civic conversation on TikTok. The work is supervised by a 2024 Nobel Laureate in Economics.
Creators have become a primary place people encounter news and political argument. That shift happened fast and it's still accelerating — and research at this scale, talking to creators directly across every account size, is still rare.
CreatorVersed x IMS is handling outreach because the people driving these conversations deserve to be in the data.
Who qualifies
- You post political, news, civic, or commentary content on TikTok
- Any account size — emerging through large, all welcome
- Monetized or not — both are wanted
- Any political perspective — the study needs range across the spectrum
- Any posting frequency, from daily to occasional
If you're a small account, you still qualify. That isn't a courtesy — account size is part of what's being studied.
What you'll do
- Answer a few quick questions about your account and content
- Connect your TikTok account so the research team can verify you're a real creator
- Complete the survey — about five minutes
Important: you'll need to approve all three TikTok permissions (profile info and account stats). Verification can't complete without them, and you won't be able to continue. Make sure you're logged into the account you actually create on before you start.
Your data
Survey responses and account data are stored on secure MIT servers and kept private. The TikTok connection reads profile information and account statistics — it does not post anything or take any action on your account.
CreatorVersed handles compensation separately and does not see your survey responses.
Compensation
$5, sent by CreatorVersed within 7 days of verified completion.
It's a token for your time rather than payment for the work — the real reason to do this is that the research gets written either way, and it's better when the creators doing the work are in it.
