This Position

Understood is searching for a highly motivated Director, Social and Off-Platform Growth who is not afraid to bring fresh ideas to the table. The role of Director, Social and Off-Platform Growth will lead the organization’s brand, impact and audience growth across all off platform channels, including social media, non-owned distribution networks, mobile applications, and services.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Social and Growth, the director will oversee a team of social and community strategists, helping them grow and develop in the area of social media strategy and community engagement strategy and execution. The director is also responsible for collaborating with product, data science, and the broader marketing team to lead the execution of an efficient and effective omnichannel content strategy. This person will also provide thought leadership, innovative ideas, and social strategies that will grow our reach and impact.

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Drive brand presence and develop Understood’s audience off-platform (size, engagement, and interaction).
  • Driving platform innovation through a forward-thinking approach leveraging cutting edge platform knowledge, consumer trends and strategic insights.
  • Set objectives, KPIs, and monitor analytics to propose ways to improve audience growth and engagement.
  • Bring expertise on emerging platforms, while monitoring and implementing social media trends.

Impact & Execution

  • Lead daily off-platform growth and operations, including monitoring tracking optimizations and escalating issues (across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, and LinkedIn)
  • Lead engagement strategy and growth for U.org-owned communities
  • Create channel, content, and engagement frameworks, strategic briefs, tactical briefs, and shows up as a strategic voice in the room, encouraging teams to think differently and take calculated risks
  • Elevate the day-to-day creative outputs
  • Ensure collation, reporting, and interpretation of data to create insights regarding effectiveness of content distribution and audience development strategy
  • Monitor social sentiment and top competitors on an ongoing basis
  • Lead and grow a team of social and community engagement strategists
  • Own allocation of resources, planning of teamwork, and team skills requirements

Values & Collaboration

  • Serve as cross-functional partner to internal teams so that our off-platform strategy is in alignment with other team goals and OKR
  • Consult on product test-and-learn strategies and influencer marketing with internal marketing teams

Preferred Experience

  • 8+ years of relevant experience within a DTC or advertising agency environment
  • Strong experience in developing robust, creative, innovative, and sharp social and community engagement strategies

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Superb understanding of the role social plays within a larger DTC brand ecosystem
  • Proven ability to drive growth across social channels and communities
  • Knowledge social intelligence tools (e.g. social listening, audience profiling)
  • Ability to develop clear, strategic presentations for C-level marketing executives
  • Strong understanding of paid, owned, and earned media and how they intersect with each other
  • Strong analytical and data skills; ability to interpret ongoing research data and media reports to guide, influence, and expertly inform communication recommendations
