Golin Chicago is hiring a media-savvy PR Manager to drive media strategy and execution that keeps our clients relevant with top media, including where our diverse consumers get their news. You'll build strong media relationships and always be on the lookout for opportunities that lead to coverage. You'll transform corporate milestones and data into compelling stories and craft interesting content that goes beyond the press release. You'll engage with media across a variety of channels, including social media, email, media events and, yes, even a phone call or two.

What You'll Do:

  • Continually seek out and create opportunities to place stories in media, from food and lifestyle media to sports and business outlets
  • Contribute to media strategies to drive rich earned coverage
  • Develop and execute media strategies and tactics that drive coverage and engagement with diverse segments, including, but not limited to African American, Hispanic/LatinX, Asian American and LGBTQ
  • Stay ahead of trends by identifying food/pop culture trends and create story opportunities from real-time news events
  • Develop compelling, media-focused content, ranging from press releases and messaging documents
  • Conduct research on relevant media contacts and track competitor announcements
  • Build strong relationships with national, multicultural, regional and trade media as well influencers, including writing compelling pitches to journalists
  • Work daily with media across multiple channels, including email, social media and phone
  • Recommend and track measurement KPIs for earned media and influencer efforts
  • Conduct media monitoring
  • Participate in and present at client meetings
  • Collaborate with teams across multiple disciplines and successfully manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges
  • Interact with clients to present strategic recommendations addressing challenges and opportunities, as well as in "think on your feet" situations
  • Represent the brand at events for media
  • Help manage a junior team by sharing real-time feedback, helping them reach their goals and guiding their growth
  • Help inspire and coach internal teams to live the mindset of strategic integration from a DE&I standpoint across programs
  • Collaborate with agency partners across multiple communication disciplines to integrate on programs

What You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in PR or journalism, with 3-5 years of related experience
  • Commitment to building campaigns that connect the client with diverse consumers
  • Proven experience working with media and a strong portfolio of story placements
  • Solid track record in working within the multicultural media and influencer space
  • Superior writing and editing skills that can communicate creatively and in an engaging manner
  • Understanding of earned media strategy and experience contributing to media plans
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and superior client service skills
  • Be proactive and highly motivated; demonstrate the ability and desire to work independently and confidently, but as part of a team
  • Be detail oriented with an ability to focus on the larger picture
  • Ability to work on multiple programs at once under tight deadlines
  • Provide sound counsel and be comfortable providing editorial and response recommendations to clients
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and client teams at all levels
