Public Relations Counselor
OVERVIEW
Meridian Group is hiring a new Public Relations Counselor to join our robust Public Relations Team! The new team member will collaborate to drive development and execution of strategic public and media relations plans for a myriad of clients.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Strategic Plan Development & Implementation:
- Development of Annual, Seasonal and project-specific plans (as applicable)
- Leading various client-driven public relations projects and initiatives
- Collaborate closely with account and client teams to develop integrated and aligned communication and marketing plans – and ensure communication strategies are consistent and reflects clients’ missions and objectives
- Media Research: Building, maintaining and updating custom media lists by client and target audience
- Annual and/or quarterly editorial calendar buildout
- Consult as needed on Crisis Comms strategy and messaging development
Pitch Cultivation & Media Outreach:
- Craft clear and compelling storylines garnering positive coverage in national consumer business, trade and local media
- Nurture media relationships to powerfully tell client stories with valuable content and consistent dialogue
- Lead virtual pitch events with top-tier consumer media (ex: TODAY Show, Popular Mechanics, Real Simple)
- Direct and conduct Satellite Media Tours on behalf of client partners
- Book and attend editorial meetings at key industry trade shows and events
Note: Event-driven travel on behalf of clients required
Influencer Marketing:
- Research appropriate Influencer partners and cultivate new opportunities
- Manage relationships and Influencer brand engagement
- Negotiate client contracts per established budgets
- Brainstorm/collaborate/consult with Influencer contacts for content development to align with client promotional goals
Product Placement:
- Solicit new opportunities and manage in-bound product donation and loaner requests on behalf of client
- Work directly with media contact(s), influencers and clients to coordinate all logistics of product delivery – and or product return as needed
- Seek new strategic relationships with trade-out producers and props contacts
Content Development
- Writing projects on behalf of clients, as well as, leaning in to proof/edit work of other team members
- To include: Drafting of client press releases, product fact sheets, advertorials, newsletter articles, scripting/interview talking points, client Q&As
What We’d Like to See:
- Ideally a minimum of 5 years of related experience in-house or at an agency, editorial or journalism experience, or industry requiring similar skill set
- Self-starter who has the ability to dive in and learn the ropes without high level of oversight
- Big picture thinker who can also hone in on the details
- Positive attitude: A creative problem-solver with the determination to overcome obstacles and bring your ideas to fruition
- Strength in story-telling: ability to build and tailor media-worthy narratives for B2C and B2B companies and their various audiences
- National brand experience and consumer-targeted PR preferred: direct experience pitching national consumer media outlets – broadcast, print, digital
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of public relations including philosophy, current trends, and measurement, and how they fit into and complement comprehensive marketing campaigns
- Degree in communications, public relations, journalism, business administration, marketing, or related field

- Full-time salaried position, eligible for medical and 401K
- Summer Fridays (2:30pm Memorial – Labor Day)
- Flexible work-from-home days (on case by case basis)
- Preferably candidate will be in-office at Virginia Beach headquarters; however, for the right candidate, agency management would be open to remote work agreement
- Occasional travel on behalf of clients required
