Overview
Mitel is looking for a talented communications professional to lead our global public relations and social media programs. As Director of Global Public Relations, you’ll lead a global team of communications professionals in building and executing PR and social media strategies that bring Mitel’s corporate plans to life. With your passion for storytelling, knack for memorable soundbites, and holistic view of communications, you’ll help position Mitel and our executives as thought leaders through a consistent drumbeat of tailored communications to a variety of audiences, including employees, channel partners, media and social influencers.
This position is US-remote.
Responsibilities
Public relations
- Lead the strategy and execution for Mitel’s global public relations and social media programs
- Develop thought leadership programs and content that position Mitel and its leaders as industry or subject experts, driving brand awareness and consideration
- Build a diverse and modern media mix, including earned media coverage, contributed content, influencer marketing, press releases/blogs and more to drive a consistent surround sound of Mitel’s key messages in the market
- Build and manage PR plans that support Mitel’s product launches, strategic initiatives and alliances, channel engagement, and M&A activities
- Oversee Mitel’s crisis communications plans and execution
- Drive relationships with Mitel’s global PR agencies to ensure alignment of strategy and messaging, along with effective use of resources and budget
- Train and coach Mitel spokespeople
- Develop PR and social strategies that highlight Mitel’s culture and corporate social responsibility initiatives, partnering with HR and corporate communications to increase the depth of Mitel’s brand in the market
Social media
- Develop strategic plans to leverage social media and influencers to support and elevate Mitel’s positioning
- Guide the transition of Mitel’s social program from an amplification tool to a central content marketing channel by encouraging and working with social team to seek new ways/channels to engage with Mitel’s core audiences
- Oversee social initiatives that maximize engagement from Mitel employees and channel partners
General
- Create and oversee annual, quarterly and project-based media plans that establish clear objectives, a consistent cadence and creative ways of connecting with core audiences
- Develop targeted audiences, messaging, content and project plans as related to media and social for key corporate initiatives and events, working to ensure consistent tone, positioning and cross-functional alignment
- Establish a clear understanding of Mitel’s value proposition, go-to-market routes and portfolio, ensuring you and your team can clearly craft and evangelize core messages to key influencer audiences
- Consult with other teams and departments on PR and social projects
- Develop ways to promote Mitel’s media and social coverage to effectively amplify exposure
- Lead a global team of 3-5 communications professionals
- Build reporting practices around KPIs, seeking opportunities for continuous improvement and sharing insights with stakeholders
Requirements
- Minimum 10-15 years experience in public relations or related field
- Previous technology industry experience required; SaaS or telecom industry is preferred
- Excellent understanding of modern PR and social media strategies along with demonstrated success implementing these techniques
- Proven experience working with executive spokespeople
- Ability to confidently communicate with a wide variety of internal and external constituents, including providing recommendations and clear plans for how to execute them
- Excellent writing and editing skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Practical experience developing and implementing social media strategies for a B2B environment
- Skilled project manager with a proven ability to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget and to the highest quality
- Ability to effectively manage pressures of a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
- Proactive, collaborative approach to building internal and external relationships
