Director Of Communications - REMOTE

PGP (The Public Good Projects) is seeking a hands-on Director of Communication that thrives while collaborating in a cross-functional team environment for a media nonprofit. The ideal candidate is results-oriented, experienced in designing and executing integrated marketing strategies, and passionate about driving positive social change. You are highly an experienced manager that is organized, proactive, measured, and a strong believer in evidence-based decision making. You’re a creative thinker, but not someone overly focused on being flashy, or who only speaks in industry jargon. You get excited about project management software, while also making sure measures reflect tactics, which reflect strategies, which reflect goals, which reflect objectives. You are a leader, who can do all this in addition to inspiring and motivating a team of 10-15 individuals, who are responsible for our work managing paid media, campaign strategy, insights & analytics, marketing influencers, collective impact and community partners.
The job entails activities pertaining, but not limited, to:
Project Related:
- Work collaboratively with PGP’s Editorial, Web, Research and Account Management teams to develop social and behavior change campaigns and projects that align with client expectations and are based on research insights;
- Develop and present strategy and client briefs in collaboration with multiple teams that provide both strategic and creative guidance to PGP’s creative teams;
- Lead the creation of cross-channel marketing communication plans to reach research-informed audience segments. Plans may include, but are not limited to: social media, programmatic media, traditional media, influencer marketing, email, websites, search and YouTube;
- Collaborate with the Account Management and Leadership teams to develop and deliver client-facing strategy decks and reports;
- Coordinate with Production and Editorial Departments to develop and implement cutting edge content strategies;
- Manage a team to lead the execution of behavior change campaigns across platforms;
- Work with digital media consultants and social media staff to compile reports that translate digital metrics into success stories about campaign performance; and
- Experience building team capacity and specializations, including technical platform procurement and contracting
- Superior project management and budget management abilities.
Management Related:
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that both guides and challenges employees in the department to learn and grow within PGP;
- Establish clear departmental goals and expectations while working with other department leads and leadership to ensure alignment with PGPs organizational goals and objectives;
- Work with the senior leadership team to cultivate an environment of creative expression, open dialogue, self-motivation, and a strong “get ‘er done” ethic; knows how to “manage up”
- Mentor staff by proactively empowering and challenging them. Train staff on marketing best practices and resources. Establish clear performance targets and regularly discuss progress with them; and
- Serve as a trusted, collaborative partner to Account Management, Creative and Research teams.
PGP Marketing & Business Development:
- Support proposal writing for new work;
- Support Leadership team internal marketing and branding development.

The ideal candidate will have significant knowledge of integrated marketing strategies as well as campaign management. This position will work closely with the VP of Comms to develop strategy, but will also be expected to be hands-on and ensuring our day-to-day objectives are met. The scope of this position includes everything from business development to market research and campaign planning, to client pitches and performance reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Interest and experience working with public health and social justice campaigns
- A minimum of 3 years of Director of Communications or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 3 years experience managing a marketing/communications team
- A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business, or a related field is required; advanced degree preferred
- Exceptional ability in designing and executing integrated marketing strategies
- At least three years managing varied levels of staff members
- Track history of delivering results in both campaign performance and internal operations
- Excellent attention to detail and highly organized with ability to work on multiple projects
- Ability to work both independently & collaboratively within a team
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Outstanding communication, presentation and leadership skills
- Time-management, multitasking and the ability to work under pressure are essential
