The Legal department at The Pokemon Company International is looking for an attorney with strong advertising and consumer product licensing experience to serve as front-line legal support and commercial counsel to Pokémon’s consumer marketing and outbound licensing business units. This person will work closely with client teams and external partners to ensure compliant marketing activities, including new campaigns, promotions, and consumer-facing communications. Additionally, this person will lead strategic licensing negotiations and advise internal clients regarding general business, contractual, and regulatory matters.
What You’ll Do
- Provide legal guidance on a diverse range of marketing activities across the company.
- Structure, draft, and negotiate outbound consumer product licenses with 3 rd party licensee and promotional partners.
- Review advertising, sweepstakes, packaging, website, digital and social media, PR, promotional, and other consumer facing materials to ensure compliance with advertising law and policy (including FTC Guidelines, CARU Guidelines, internal company guidelines, and other digital advertising industry standards and practices).
- Draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts relating to advertising, influencer marketing, user acquisition, contests and promotions, professional services, and confidentiality.
- Participate in industry working groups as a representative of Pokemon on the topics of kids advertising, adtech, privacy best practices, and self-regulatory governance.
- Develop tools, policies, processes, resources, and checklists for use by business clients as needed.
What You’ll Bring
- 4 years directly advising clients in advertising law and intellectual property deal making, with a strong working knowledge of kids advertising and the interactive entertainment industry.
- Exceptional drafting, negotiation, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrable experience innovating new processes to streamline operations and increase efficiency, transparency, and comprehension between client teams and legal.
- Demonstrable experience working in legal team environment and building close and collegial working relationships with team members in aligned or related support areas.
- In-house legal team experience with a company in the entertainment industry preferred (interactive entertainment experience a plus)
- Experience working with multinational corporations and/or client and possessing a strong ability to facilitate cross-cultural communications.
- J.D. or equivalent degree and bar license in good standing with the ability to practice law in Washington State.
- Spanish and/or Japanese language skills a plus

What To Expect

While we maintain a good balance between work and life, additional hours may be required at peak times or for specific initiatives, including domestic and international travel. This role will often be on video conferencing tools or in front of business units or vendor partners to engage in mission critical negotiations for The Pokémon Company International.
The Pokémon Company International, a subsidiary of The Pokémon Company in Japan, manages the property outside of Asia and is responsible for brand management, licensing, marketing, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the animated TV series, home entertainment, and the official Pokémon website.
