Media Relations Specialist, Healthcare
Overview
Ketchum is looking for a Media Relations Specialist to join the team . T his person will oversee earned media relations work for a wide variety of accounts within our portfolio of healthcare and pharmaceutical accounts. They will be responsible for developing strategic media plans and executing earned media coverage.
About The Job
- Responsible for day-to-day contact with account teams and gain a deep understanding of the client’s business and objective to extract interesting story ideas.
- Proactively consult and work with a variety of clients to develop unique narratives to clarify their value proposition and align their story with the news cycle.
- Stay on top of media trends
- Proven ability to pitch and secure media in local market and national (print, broadcast and radio) outlets.
- Have established relationships and contacts at national print and online outlets.
- Familiarity with talent/anchors/differences among various news and entertainment programs.
- Deliver high quality written content, ability to write of media releases, fact sheets, pitch notes, pitch emails, client correspondence, pitches, media lists and reports that are client ready
- Recommend media opportunities to account teams for their clients gathers information proactively and in a timely manner to share with teams
- Contribute to account activities including special events, media events, media relations, social media, desk-side briefings, program implementation, and other duties as assigned
- Understand the clients’ business and begin to evolve as a trusted advisor, not order taker, to deliver meaningful results
- Uncover, explore and learn about new tools and techniques important to conducting effective media outreach and deploy as appropriate
- Demonstrate high proficiency with agency tools (e.g. Cision , Muck Rack ) emerging social media platforms, understanding of influencer marketing, earned and paid media approach
Qualifications
- 3 plus years of public relations experience or as a journalist. W orking in a n agency and in a media relations role is a plus
- Must have strong media relationships within the health space or a strong desire to build them
- Must possess superior verbal and written communications skills
- Must have proven track record of earned media results
- Creative approach to pitch/story development
- Show a strong working knowledge of established and emerging web tools/platforms and how people use them
- Read voraciously and share content
