ROLE

The individual will be responsible for the business growth and brand building of Wella Professional in North America, serving the needs of and delighting stylists and their clients. Wella Professionals is the largest brand in the North America portfolio. The role requires strong leadership skills and entrepreneurial spirit in order to build the Wella Brand short, mid and long-term strategy and plans in North America, collaborating very closely to the Global Wella team. Key responsibilities include content, media, innovation, activation, education and go-to-market strategies and plans. Strong marketing capabilities on brand building, influencer marketing, social media marketing, digital video, search and e-commerce are required, as well as business acumen is critical to drive a high-performance-driven culture in the Team. The role requires strong collaboration skills to build effective partnerships with internal and external local and global stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead US marketing team, define and deliver portfolio vision, 3 Year plan and where to play/how to win choices to deliver share and profit growth
  • Develop and lead Retail Hair strategic plan, including innovation plan & local brand building activation and ensure disciplined execution to grow share and revenue in US
  • Develop marketing, media, influencers and national promotional strategy and plans to drive brand equity, mental availability & grow brand productivity to ensure physical availability at top customers.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor marketing team to foster strong culture and increase capabilities and motivation.
  • Brand P&L ownership and management: Responsible for brand P&L and for driving the recommendations and decisions to achieve the brand’s top and bottom line growth objectives.
  • Deep local category and Consumer Understanding: Identify and leverage North America category dynamics & trends, consumer insights and needs and competitive intelligence to develop winning brand strategies and plans in partnership with the Consumer & Market Insights team.
  • Brand building: Partner with global brand on defining/evolving the brands equity and strategies to make sure they will be suited for the American consumer and market.
  • Brand portfolio: Define, develop, and execute the brands’ portfolio strategic choices and plans. Work closely with Trade Marketing to define and develop the brand’s channel and commercial (pricing, promotion, etc) strategies and plans.
  • Brand activation: Define, develop, and execute the brands’ local communication and activation strategies and plans (content, earned, owned and paid media, e-commerce, search, influencers, education, shopper communication etc.). Understand media sufficiency and recommend right level of activity and spending to be competitive in market and grow market share.
  • Brand innovation: Partner with global Wella team to provide the input and insights to have innovations that will be successful in North America. Define, develop and deliver activation and go-to-market plans to make innovation successful in North America.
  • Brand education: Work closely with the Education team to develop brand education strategies and plans that respond to the stylists needs and allow the brand to grow market share ahead of the competition

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years work experience in marketing and brand buildings as well as previous P&L ownership and management. Experience in Professional Beauty, FMCG and/or beauty industry is strongly preferred.
  • Previous people management experience is a must.
  • Strong brand building knowledge and skills, including consumer targeting, brand positioning, creative, media planning, channels (social, digital video, programmatic, etc), earned media (influencer marketing and PR), search and e-commerce.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills. Familiarity with consumer data bases and metrics (IRI, Nielsen, NPD, etc)
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to understand and manage a brand P&L
  • Strong collaboration skills (win for the team) with an ability to influence a diversity of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience evaluating creative work and working with a diversity of external agencies.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Strong operational & financial discipline.
  • Driven & ambitious leader with strong sense of ownership, accountability, and results/ action oriented.
  • Ability to learn fast and operate effectively within rapid change and ambiguity.
  • MS Office (specifically Excel, PowerPoint)
  • A bachelor's degree is required, and an MBA is preferred.
