Shutterfly is seeking a Vice President, Creative and Design who is a creative visionary who can help elevate the company’s iconic consumer brands to the next level. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a savvy and seasoned creative leader to make a real impact in a growing industry and company. The position will lead the creative and design teams.

You will lead and mentor a group of creative directors, art directors, graphic and visual designers to support all of the company’s business units in developing and flawlessly executing brand and channel creative, packaging, merchandising and collateral systems that support the marketing strategies and positioning of the company’s products. You will help set the visual design language and standards for Shutterfly to assure a strong, integrated brand presence across all product, packaging, media, digital presence and brands. You will also oversee the daily management of the team.

RESPONSIBILITES

  • Brand Steward – Hold ownership over the look-and-feel, tone and manner of each of the brands. Continually striving to elevate the brands while ensuring thoughtful and brand-consistent execution across all channels. Channels include email, ecommerce, catalog/direct mail, digital, media, partner, mobile, social. This includes brand guides and standards for Marketing campaigns, Visual UX Design and for merchandize product style and trend guides.
  • Support adoption of target audience through the use of personas and other brand reference tools
  • Develop creative expression strategies for Shutterfly Inc. portfolio of products in support of marketing strategies and positioning
  • Digital Design – Lead creative/design teams in the development and execution of all marketing materials, including print, online advertising, social, partnerships, onsite banners, emails, landing pages, catalogs, inserts and other marketing collaterals.
  • Digital Content/CRM – Creative is also a key stakeholder in the development of an enterprise-wide CRM/Personalization strategy; this leader would ideally have experience in the development of content approach that supports the development of atomized content to support marketing automation/CRM.
  • Seasoned Creative Leader – Provides project and creative leadership for outside design firms, photographers and illustrators, including negotiating contracts and driving schedules
  • People Management – Exceptional leadership qualities. Ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve their best work and to create an enriching, high performance culture. Great coach and mentor
  • Administration – Oversees creative and design administration to ensure accurate budgeting, accounting and reporting. Drives scoping of quarterly projects and estimates resource needs and capacity constraints to service prioritized needs
  • Concept Development – Ability to think creatively and conceptually – both visually and editorially – to identify the most compelling ways to achieve business objectives through creative output
  • Digital/Media – Expert command of the creative requirements for multitude of channels, including online and offline advertising, video, social and interactive multimedia
  • Design Expertise – Passion for design and experience with brand identity and visual design systems. Possesses deep industry knowledge and keeps current with best-of-class design vendors, news and trends
  • Recruiting and Staffing – Demonstrated ability to attract and retain world-class creative team. Must have robust network of designers, photographers, stylists, producers, agencies, freelancers, etc.
  • Process-Driven – Experienced in leading entire creative process from planning, scheduling, production to launch. Ability to continually improve process within creative team and with cross-functional partners
  • Cross-Functional Leadership – Experience with matrix organizations and ability to effectively influence without direct reporting relationship
  • Retail Experience Preferred – Experience helping build fast-paced, retail brands, either in-house or on the agency side, preferably for an online/ecommerce business.

Required Experience

  • 15+ years of solid brand and communication design experience, with substantial exposure to a wide variety of disciplines, including brand strategy, identity development, print and digital marketing materials, packaging, visual design, merchandizing and collateral materials.
  • 7+ years as Creative Director leading branding and marketing communications for an eCommerce or consumer packaged goods companies.
  • Team builder and inspiring leader with consummate collaboration and engagement management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and excellent presentation skills.
  • Highly knowledgeable in creative development processes and abreast of innovative design trends and technologies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
  • Extraordinary eye (great sense of aesthetics, trendsetter but not trendy)
  • Strategic and analytical thinking (know what will move the needle)
  • Creative (ability to come up with new, innovative and compelling campaign ideas)
  • Strong relationship management, communication and interpersonal skills (high EQ and effective influencer)
  • Passion for the customer (live and breathe the brand and the customer’s world)
  • Innovative and creative thinking (out-of-the box thinker and problem solver)
  • Positive can-do attitude (always ask “how” and not stuck at “can’t”)

  • A solid understanding of how creativity can achieve business objectives while still meeting an encouraged brand standard for aesthetic and communication quality
  • Strong experience with performance marketing that are insight and analytically driven
  • Deep understanding of social & content creative solutions and PR-able idea
  • Understanding of digital, social, PR, experiential, emerging platforms, and the evolving media landscap
  • Experience of working seamlessly with people outside of Creative to deliver non-traditional creative, including but not limited to documentary series, innovative tech, social movement, consumer PR or socially amplified campaigns
