About the Role:
As an R&D Manager, Applications Lab (based in Greenville, NC) at Feastables, you will play a crucial role in the development and testing of innovative and high-quality food products. Reporting to the VP of Product R&D, you'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including Consumer Insights, Marketing, Product & Package Development. This role will serve to help translate early-stage prototypes into consumer-test ready products, while also helping to lead and facilitate localized testing.
We're looking for a skilled application scientist with experience producing high quality benchtop samples and can operate with high levels of autonomy. In addition to managing the applications lab and producing samples, this role will also organize and orchestrate localized sensory and consumer testing for early-stage prototype feedback. This person will have proven success with applications, technical demonstrations, and the ability to present to all levels of the organization.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Managing day-to-day needs of the application lab including inventory, ordering, sanitation, organization, and development of protocols
- Maintain kitchen equipment, and identify additional tools and resources as needed
- Reproduce samples and packaging to a given set of specifications with a high level of consistency and quality, leveraging good sanitation practices
- Determine efficient systems within the lab to effectively scale Prototypes to deliver on consumer, sensory science and internal testing needs
- Support technical presentations and drive clear communications on technical product and package development
- Develop, organize, and orchestrate localized taste-tests with early-stage prototypes and translate testing outcomes into actionable feedback for product development
- Support the development and implementation of product specifications, standards, and guidelines within our internal system
Recipe for Success:
- 4+ years of experience in food applications, food science, culinary or related fields
- Strong knowledge of food product development, sensory science, and testing methodologies
- Experience working with confectionery, especially chocolate confectionery
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, frequently evolving startup environment
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to travel both domestic and international (as needed)
