The Data Science & Analytics (DSA) organization is a core part of product leadership at Roblox. Our mission is to accelerate and enhance product development through data-driven insights, rigorous measurement, and causal inference and machine learning expertise. By working closely with product and engineering teams, we uncover opportunities, inform strategy, develop robust solutions, and facilitate decision-making. Our work drives significant impact, expediting the product development cycle and improving experiences for our vast player and creator communities.

As the Senior Director of Creator & Engine Data Science, you will shape the data strategy for Creator, Studio, and Engine domains at Roblox. Your focus will cover the entire creator ecosystem, from developing and refining Studio tools to optimizing core engine performance and advancing content strategies. You will bring to bear data science solutions, including innovative LLM (Large Language Models) and Generative AI technologies, to drive the development of technology and empower our creators to build, innovate, and succeed on the platform.

This role demands advanced analytics, causal inference, machine learning, and AI applications to influence how creators engage with Roblox, how our engine evolves, and how creator success is enhanced. Partnering with cross-functional teams, you will drive product development, accelerate platform improvements, and bring data and AI solutions to the forefront of Roblox's creator experience.

This role will report to the VP, Data Science in San Mateo, CA.

You Will

• Leverage Advanced Analytics & AI: Use advanced analytics, machine learning, causal inference, and brand new LLM and GenAI technologies to extract actionable insights into creator behavior, engine performance, and content strategies.
• Develop & Optimize Algorithms: Evaluate, develop, and optimize algorithms and AI models that enhance creator tools, improve engine efficiency, and increase overall creator success within the Roblox ecosystem.
• Balance Creator & Engine Dynamics: Navigate and balance the unique needs of creators, core engine development, and platform growth to drive value across the Roblox ecosystem, using generative AI as appropriate.
• Collaborate Cross-functionally: Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Creator Relations teams to ensure data science initiatives align with business goals, contributing to a cohesive and integrated creator and technology strategy.
• Build Scalable Data Solutions: Design and build scalable data and AI solutions that continuously improve Roblox Studio, Core engine, and creator support systems, enhancing both creator satisfaction and platform capabilities.
• Innovate with LLM & GenAI: Lead research and application of LLM and GenAI technologies to drive advancements in creator tools, content generation, and engine optimization.
  
  

You Have

• Education: MS or PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Applied Math, Engineering, Statistics, Physics, or other quantitative fields.
• 12+ years in data science, analytics, or relevant technical domains, with strong expertise in content creation platforms and system/infrastructure development.
• 5+ years of experience managing, developing, and scaling high-performing data science teams.
• Advanced skills in big data query languages (e.g., SQL, Hive, Spark) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, R).
• Technical & Analytical Expertise: Proven skills in machine learning, causal inference, and a solid background in working with complex systems and infrastructure.
• AI & Machine Learning Experience: Demonstrated experience with LLM and GenAI technologies and their practical applications in product and platform development.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$415,750—$476,710 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
